Gwinnett Medical Center's Concussion Institute Ready to Serve Athletes

The Concussion Institute is located on the hospital's Duluth campus.

In early August, Gwinnett Medical Center will officially open its new Concussion Institute in Duluth just when many school-age athletes return to the field, but it's already providing care to student athletes.

The institute is the first of its kind in Gwinnett, and only the third in the nation, according to a CBS Atlanta report. On Tuesday (July 25), officials led members of the community on a tour of the new facility.

Right now, athletes' services include post-concussion, diagnosis of concussions early and treatment paths, include neuropsychology, according to the program's website. It practices a multifaceted approach to concussion injuries and sports rehabilitation.

"This program has grown from offering baseline testing to football or collision sport athletes in Gwinnett County to now we're providing it mandatorily to all the athletes," said Tim Simmons, director of sports medicine, as quoted by CBS Atlanta. "Currently we have over 40,000 kids baseline in our program."

The Concussion Institute is located at The Hudgens Professional Building, 3855 Pleasant Hill Road, Suite 130, Duluth.
