Norcross vs. Duluth selected as Game of the Week.
Gwinnett Football Game of the Week Duluth (1-2) at Norcross (3-0) Patch's reader-decided Gwinnett Game of the Week is an old-time football rivalry that dates back to 1921, according to data from the Georgia High School Football Historians Association. The rivalry has been one-sided in Norcross' favor the last two decades. Norcross has won eight in a row over the Wildcats, and 15 of the last 17 meetings. But that hasn't always been the case. Expect a close game, but with North having a week to rest and game-plan, and the uncertainty of Norcross star running back Alvin Kamara's ankle injury, it's hard to pick against the Bulldogs. PREDICTION: North Gwinnett 24, Norcross 21 Other game predictions Last week's record: 9-5 (Overall 18-8) Note: Some statistical …

I’ll never forget the exchange of conversations I had with a Gwinnett County football coach several years ago when I worked for a pictures-and-words outfit out of Atlanta (I think they’re in Dunwoody now). “Scott,” the coach said of the weekly high school football prediction column I wrote: “Don’t pick us this week. You jinxed us last time.” Sure enough, that happened, although I wouldn’t call it a jinx. I picked his team to win the week before against an inferior team, and the coach’s team played spectacularly awful and lost. His team’s inability to hold onto the ball had more to do with it than what I wrote. OK, I said to the coach. Why not? It was an important game, and I could be the bad guy and pick against his team. Result? His team …
