NASA Explains Why the World Didn't End Dec. 21

Intended as a video to be aired on Dec. 22, NASA reassures the public that life will continue on after the so-called Mayan apocalypse.

In another attempt to debunk widespread belief that the world is coming to an end on Dec. 21, 2012, NASA has released a video intended to be aired on Dec. 22 -- confirming that life on Earth continues on. The four-minute video titled "Why the World Didn't End Yesterday," labels the Dec. 21 Mayan apocalypse as a hoax and explains how the rumors began.  Earlier this month, the U.S. Government responded to apocalyptic fears by posting a blog on the USA.gov website to help dispel the rumors. The post touches on how many have been left frightened, especially children, some of whom have contemplated committing suicide because of the doomsday predictions.  NASA has also published a section on its site that provides answers for commonly asked …

Is December 21, 2012, the End of the World? Experts Think Not.

Here's what scholars and scientists are saying about the Dec. 21, 2012, Doomsday prophesies, the end of the Mayan calendar and their potential impact.

Don’t make any rash decisions: Experts say 12/21/12 is going to be just another typical winter solstice. Killer solar flares aren’t expected. Another planet isn’t on a collision course with ours. And, despite the plans for "end of days" parties in Gwinnett County and elsewhere, the Mayan “long count calendar” ending on this date has no real significance – they had to end it somewhere! What is All the Fuss About? There are a number of theories and predictions that call for earth’s demise on Dec. 21, 2012. They include: What are the Experts Saying? The intrigue created by multiple end-of-the-world predictions has made many scholars and even NASA stand up to make statements debunking the claims. From professors at Tampa Bay’s own New College …

Long story short, The sun or what ever that object was sucking the suns energy and using it for their gas will more then likely be what causes the sun to flair and will cause our worlds end if that thing would leave the sun alone I'm pretty sure there would be no solar flairs so when people say the aliens will kill us i feel they are somewhat correct however they will not be doing it …   more ›

Do You Expect the World to End on Dec. 21, 2012?

With end of the Maya's "long count" calendar set for Dec. 21, there have been predictions about the world coming to an end. Will you be having an End of the World Party on Dec. 21 or do you still expect to be around the next day?

There are reportedly many parties planned for Dec. 20 or 21 this year, just in case. With the "long count" calendar of the Ancient Mayans coming to an end that day, some people are a little pessimistic about any calendar continuing past that date. Experts on the matter, however, say we've got nothing to worry about. According to an article on nbcnews.com: "Experts estimate the system starts counting at 3114 B.C., and will have run through 13 baktuns, or 5,125 years, around Dec. 21. Experts say 13 was a significant number for the Maya, and the end of that cycle would be a milestone — but not an end." Some people believe the Maya may have predicted "impending astronomical disasters that would coincide with 2012, ranging from explosive storms…

WWYD If the World Was Ending?

Duluth author's second book in seven-part series continues to ask this question.

What Would You Do if the end of the world was near? That’s the question that Duluth author J.L Robb continues to ask in “The End of the World Part Two.” The just published second book in Robb’s seven-part series again features Jeffrey Ross as the main character and Duluth as the setting. Ross has just lost Melissa, the love of his life. Atlanta is under siege as terrorism comes to the Bible Belt. Nearby Buford Dam is blown up in a nuclear attack. A hijacked nuclear sub is targeting Savannah. Nature unleashes a series of natural disasters in the form of record hailstorms, winds and waves. Famine is widespread. Mosquitos are spreading HIV in Africa and Asia. A deadly Spanish Flu virus has been stolen from the CDC in Atlanta and is claiming …

Duluth Author's Book Explores 'The End'

J.L. Robb to sign copies of 'THE END The Book' following city's Memorial Day service Saturday.

Duluth author J.L. (Jerry) Robb will sign copies of “THE END The Book,” a fictional account of the end of the world, from 7-10 p.m. Saturday, May 28, after Duluth’s Memorial Day ceremony. His book explores what the Bible says “the end” will be like and discusses the beliefs of Christians, Jews and Muslims on the subject. “THE END The Book" is Part One in a series of seven books Robb plans to write that follow the main character Jeffrey Ross, an “unbeliever,” who lives in Sugarloaf Country Club in Duluth. Part One was published March 31 by WestBow Press, a division of the Thomas Nelson Co. Although the book is a fictional account of the “last days” or the “end times,” it is based on the biblical predictions of ancient Jewish prophets. …
