U.S. 7th District U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall, R-Lawrenceville, has a Republican challenger from Suwanee in his bid for re-election. David Hancock, chief operating officer of Alpharetta-based Automation Control Products, has qualified as a Republican to challenge Woodall, according to records of the Georgia Secretary of State's Office. The GOP Primary is July 31. Qualifying as a Democrat to seek the District 7 seat was attorney Steve Reilly of Lawrenceville. The winner of the GOP and Democratic primaries will face each other in the General Election Nov. 6. Qualifying began May 23 and ended May 25. U.S. 7th District Congressman Rob Woodall, R-Lawrenceville, will be participating in Duluth’s Memorial Day Service Saturday, May 26, at 6 p.m. at the Duluth Town Green and Amphitheater. This year’s service will honor Korean War veterans on the 60th anniversary of the 1950-1953 war. The service is sponsored by the City of Duluth, American Legion Post 251, and the U.S. Department of Defense. American Legion Riders from Post 251 will deliver a “Salute to Fallen Heroes.” Korean veterans will be presented commemorative coins in appreciation of their service.

Congressman Rob Woodall, R-Lawrenceville, encourages high school art students in the 7th Congressional District to enter the 2012 Congressional Art Competition. The deadline to submit entries this year is Friday, March 30. The winner will be invited to attend the June 20 opening of the 2012 Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery Exhibition at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. U.S Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) will be the guest speaker at the Thursday, Aug. 11, meeting of the Founding Father Tea Party Patriots. Representatives from Citizens for a Better Gwinnett (C4BG) also plan to attend. C4BG member Jim Regan said the group has requested Woodall sponsor a bill to defund the FAA Airport Privatization Program. “Thus far Rep Woodall has not committed to our request,” Regan wrote in a Facebook invitation to the event. “This is our opportunity to show support as we continue to oppose the expansion of Briscoe Field.” The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at The Flying Machine, located at 510 Briscoe Blvd. in Lawrenceville.

The Duluth Civitan Club will host U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) for a lunchtime speech Tuesday, July 5, at the Duluth Festival Center, 3142 Hill St. Congressman Woodall will speak on the proposed Fair Tax and other issues. The public is invited to attend, but there are only 30 remaining seats available. Lunch will be catered for $8 a person by Duluth's Family Restaurant. The event will take place from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. Anyone who would like to attend, call Terry Crouch at 678-481-8474.
