Next door to Duluth, golf's final major of the year is being staged at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
Monday was the beginning of a full week of golf, and fans from everywhere began making their way to the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek to get a glimpse -- and maybe an autograph or two -- from some of the world's top professional golfers. Collecting autographs is a passion for many in the Atlanta metro area, who were taking advantage of golf's elite being in town on Monday. Patch encountered four lads who had followed golfer Jim Furyk on his way from the putting green to the practice range, and the affable golfer accomodated their requests, signing everything from posters, hats and flags. Bruce Murphy, a soon-to-be 8-year-old from Johns Creek; Connor Sewell, 10, from Buckhead, and Sandy Springs residents William Mitcham, 11, and …

Woods and Mickelson are among the favorites of local golfers to win at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are always among the fan’s favorites each time they compete. The 93rd PGA Championship will be no exception. The two best-known golfers in the world can expect to have some solid support when they tee it up at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek. Woods and Mickelson were mentioned more often than any other players by some of the golfers interviewed while enjoying 18 holes on Friday at Rivermont Golf and Country Club in Johns Creek. While other competitors were mentioned, it was Tiger and Phil who drew the most pre-tournament attention. “I’m always pulling for Tiger,” said Sidney Conn of Johns Creek. “He’s the best that’s ever played and I want to see him come back and play at the same level.” Richard …

PGA of America shared with Patch these shots, posted on the organization's PGA Championship Facebook page. Last Friday, Woods' agent Mark Steinberg said in a PGA Of America-issued statement that Woods would play in the event the week of Aug. 8 if there are "no complications" related to his recent leg injury. A four-time PGA Championship winner, Woods played in the Masters Tournament but sat out the U.S. Open and British Open due to an injury to his left leg. 2011 PGA Championship, golf's 4th major, occurring at Atlanta Athletic Club in August.
For golf enthusiasts it just doesn't get any better. In just two months, 156 of the top professional players will be teeing it up in Duluth's back yard to compete in the PGA Championship, golf's fourth and final major tournament of the year. It will be the third time that the Atlanta Athletic Club, just across the Chattahoochee River, will be the site of the professional tournament. The club is one of only five to host the PGA Championship three or more times. The defending champion, Martin Kaymer from Germany, played the Highlands course for the first time on Monday. And as expected, he found the championship course has been set up to test the best golfers in the world. Winning on this course, said Kaymer, will require precision and …
