Duluth Merchants Association honors Albert Marquez as Merchant of the Year at Christmas Party.
Albert Marquez was honored as the “Merchant of the Year” at the Duluth Merchants Association’s Christmas Party Dec. 4. Jim Johnson, outgoing 2012 DMA president, singled out Marquez, who has administered the DMA’s website for the past 14 years. Marquez, an adventure travel specialist, is the owner of Duluth-based Planet Earth Adventures, which arranges tours and excursions in Alaska. Al Brown, incoming DMA 2013 president, presented a plaque to Johnson in recognition of his service as president for the past year. Rayann Larsen, owner of The Work Spot where the party was held, is the new DMA vice president. Steve Eckman will become secretary. John Monk will serve as treasurer. Ten local artists, craftspersons to display, sell their one-of-a-kind handmade artworks, gifts.
Find one-of-a-kind artworks and gifts at the Winter Arts Market hosted Saturday, Dec. 10, by The Work Spot in downtown Duluth. Ten artists and craftspersons will display and sell their handmade wares from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Work Spot, a co-working environment, is located at 3150 Main St. Among the artists showing their works will be Audrey Menefee, Barbara Dornbusch, Vernell Mosley, Taryn Reed, Lois Greene, and Sarah Ann Miller. Co-working environment on Main Street in Duluth nearly doubles in size, adds training facility.
The Work Spot, which opened in downtown Duluth under a year ago, has expanded and nearly doubled its space. The new space next door includes a training room that can accommodate 50 persons and a large open space suitable for events that can accommodate 30 persons. An open house occurred from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, to celebrate the new event and meeting space. A co-working environment, the Work Spot provides 24/7 work space with secure Wi-Fi and amenities that include conference and meeting rooms, lounges, a 42-inch monitor, a printer/FAX machine, wall-size dry erase boards, a kitchen, eating space, restrooms, and free coffee. Collaborative work space on Main Street becomes a business and community resource.
Since opening on Main Street in Duluth in February, the Work Spot has become a business and community resource. Owner Rayann Larsen hosted the July meeting of the Duluth Merchants Association July 5 in the collaborative work space. Besides providing a place to work outside the home or office, Larsen informed DMA members that the Work Space offers presentations on tech topics. The schedule for July includes: “It (the Work Spot) started as a need for a place for me to work,” said Larsen, who previously was toiling amidst distractions at her home and in coffee shops, “and now I’ve created a space that’s changing lives.” Larsen also is launching Work and Play at the Spot where parents can bring their laptops and work for a few hours while …
