All four artists will display their work in the Finalists Exhibition June 8 through Sept. 7 at the Hudgens in Duluth.
The Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth has announced the four finalists for the prestigious $50,000 Hudgens Prize. The prize includes a solo exhibit for the artist at The Hudgens. The finalists are Christopher Chambers of Atlanta, Robbie Land of Atlanta, Derek Larson of Statesboro, and Pam Longobardi of Atlanta. Competition for the prize is open only to Georgia residents. The Hudgens in Duluth offering spring art classes for youth and adults and summer camps for children.
The Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth is looking forward to spring and summer and letting Gwinnett residents know what’s being offered. Spring art classes start the week of March 18 and include one and two-day workshops as well as regular eight-week long classes in a variety of media. Registration is also open for summer children’s art camps, which include four Color Wheel sessions and three Summer Pottery sessions. Two free Altered Books workshops are scheduled for Saturday, March 9. The Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth is celebrating Black History Month with three exhibits opening Tuesday, Jan. 22. Sponsored by The Primerica Foundation, the exhibits will remain on display through March 9. “The Dream: Five Black Artists, Five Voices” features five Atlanta-based artists Paul S. Benjamin, Jerushia Graham, Henry Leonard, Lynn Marshall-Linnemeir and Nnamdi Okonkwo. A $50,000 Hudgens Prize will be again be awarded to a talented Georgia artist this year. The prize recipient will also earn the opportunity for a solo exhibit at the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth. Fall art classes start the week of Aug. 20 at the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth. The offerings include creative drawing for adults and children, mixed media, oil and acrylic painting, glass art, photography, quilting, pottery, and more, according to a press release issued by the center. There will also be painting and pottery classes taught in Korean Classes are available both days and evenings and typically meet one day a week for eight weeks, although some meet only six weeks, such as a parent/child pottery class. Daytime pottery classes are offered for homeschoolers. The opening of four new exhibits at the Hudgens Center for the Arts in Duluth including “Altered Books” and “Pulp Fashion: The Art of the Paper Dress” will be celebrated at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 9. Forty entries in the Gwinnett County Public Library’s Altered Book Contest and Pulp Fashion dresses featured at Duluth’s Barefoot in the Park Fine Arts Festival in May will be on display at the Hudgens starting Tuesday, June 5. Paper dresses featured at Duluth’s recent Barefoot in the Park Fine Arts Festival will be on display at the Hudgens Arts Center for the Arts through the summer. Made from recycled books and other paper materials, the dresses were created by Gwinnett County Public Library employees and volunteers.
