Seeing hundreds or thousands of ants in your home, office or car? You're not alone. Patch talked to the University of Georgia's entomology department about what to do.
Thanks to the drought in Georgia, and all the pop-up thunderstorms that have followed, many residents are seeing what can be described as an ant invasion. The ants are everywhere -- in closets, in laundry rooms, in classrooms, in cars, in offices, in coffee pots. Name it, and these ants likely have been there. According to experts at the University of Georgia, these are Argentine ants (Linepithema humile). They were inadvertently introduced to the United States in the 1880s and are one of the most invasive pests around. -- Have you see the ants in your home, office or vehicle, and what have you done to combat them? Tell us in the comments below. Jacob Holloway, a graduate student at the UGA's Department of Entomology who is specifically …

Here's advice on cooking and serving one of America's favorite summertime vegetable.
My uncle is a career farmer and his main crop for over 40 years has been corn. Having full meals that consisted solely of Uncle Al's corn on the cob was a staple of our summer meal schedules while I was growing up, and I loved every serving. I look forward to this time of year every summer, when July and August meals are anchored with platters of corn. Our CSA boxes from Riverview Farms often contain a dozen plus ears of organic corn, starting in early July, often stretching to the end of August. My favorite method of cooking corn, because I feel it brings out the best flavor in the kernels, is boiling. However, there are several other popular ways of serving up this summer favorite: Grilling: Microwave: Steam: Boil: To serve: If you run…

You are at the beach with your baby. You are slathered in sunscreen. Should you share it with your infant? According to a FDA pediatrician, you really shouldn't. "The best approach is to keep infants under 6 months out of the sun and to avoid exposure to the sun in the hours between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when ultraviolet (UV) rays are most intense," says Hari Cheryl Sachs, M.D., a pediatrician at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in a consumer report. The reason? A baby's skin is really thin and absorbs the chemical ingredients in sunscreen easily, increasing the risk of an allergic reaction or inflammation.
