Barnes & Noble Bookfair Benefits Rainbow Village

Part of the sales proceeds from the Bookfair Dec 7-9 will be donated to Rainbow Village in Duluth.

Need to purchase books or literary acessories for individuals on your Christmas gift list? Rainbow Village in Duluth will host its annual Bookfair Dec. 7-9 at Barnes & Noble stores in The Forum in Peachtree Corners or the Mall of Georgia in Buford. A portion of sales proceeds will benefit Rainbow Village. Print and take one of the Bookfair flyers attached to this article. There is a different flyer for each location. Games and activities will be offered during all three days of the Bookfair Friday-Sunday. Rainbow Village is a transitional housing program for homeless families with children. ~ Duluth Patch

"Made in America," it used to be such a common label. The majority of those of us who remember that proud label probably took it for granted for the most part. There was a time that anything that didn't sport the label was thought to be, and generally was, an inferior product. But then the U.S. began to outsource many manufacturing jobs overseas making the "Made in America" label almost obsolete. According to a report in the New York Times, that trend is changing. Columbus Day falls on Monday, Oct. 8, this year. That's today!

Columbus Day, a nationally recognized federal holiday, falls on Monday, Oct. 8, this year. While it is an opportunity for some to sleep in on a Monday, the holiday itself is also interesting, and a great time for Duluth residents to celebrate and shop. Columbus Day remembers Italian explorer Christopher Columbus’ long journey across the Atlantic Ocean to the “New World." The voyage was victorious when land was first spotted on Oct. 12, 1492. The day is also considered a celebration of Italian heritage, as well as a huge shopping day in the U.S.  President Franklin Delano Roosevelt is responsible for making the holiday a federal one in 1937.
