Work Begins on Pedestrian-friendly Projects

Gwinnett Place CID announces construction has started on streetscape and sidewalk improvements along Pleasant Hill Road, Satellite Boulevard and other roads.

Major roads in the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District are becoming more pedestrian-friendly. Construction on three streetscape and six sidewalk projects began in May, according to an announcement from the Gwinnett Place CID. The streetscape projects include installing benches, trash cans, brick pavers and landscaping to accompany new sidewalks along parts of Pleasant Hill Road and Satellite Boulevard. New sidewalks also will be installed along Koger Boulevard, Pineland Road and parts of Steve Reynolds Boulevard, Old Norcross Road, Sweetwater Road, and Venture Drive. “We are enthusiastic about the new pedestrian improvement projects, which will bring a whole new look to sections of Gwinnett’s central business district,” said …

I-85/Pleasant Hill DDI Concept OK'd

Gwinnett Place CID granted $450,000 for Satellite Blvd. streetscaping, pedestrian enhancements.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) officially approved a concept report for the proposed conversion of the Pleasant Hill Road bridge over I-85 to an innovative diverging-diamond interchange (DDI).  Approval of the concept plan is required to advance the project further with the Federal Highway Administration. Additional permitting and plan approvals will be sought this fall as right-of-acquisition continues in preparation for construction to begin in early 2012, according to a June 2 announcement by the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District, which has proposed the DDI to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the I-85 crossing.  Leo Wiener, chairman the Gwinnett CID, said the GDOT approval is welcome news …
