Duluth faces important region game; Peachtree Ridge should get fourth win in a row.
Every week, I pick high-school football games that are played in Patch coverage areas from Stone Mountain to Cumming. Check out this week's predictions, then let us know how you think your team will fare in the comment box below...if you dare. Last week's record: 20-5. Overall record: 77-20. Are you ready for another round of picks? Collins Hill at Duluth: A potential crossroads game for both teams. Fact is, the loser of this game will need help from other teams to earn a playoff berth in tough Region 7-AAAAA, which has two state-ranked teams (North Gwinnett and Norcross) and another team playing like one (Peachtree Ridge) at the top of the standings. A big "if" in this game is the availability of Duluth’s Anfornee Stewart, the county …

Duluth faces Norcross in key region game; Peachtree Ridge a heavy favorite over Meadowcreek.
I was leaving church Wednesday night when I heard the beautiful words: “Thank God for football season.” “Amen,” I thought, as I felt a comfortably cool breeze hit me under the striking golden hues of sunset. “That’s right,” I was still thinking. The summer heat has broken and become chamber-of-commerce quality. College and pro games have started, there’s a game on TV almost every night and our favorite sons are playing high-school ball every weekend in our neighborhood stadiums. The mother then rattled off what it’s like to have a young boy playing in a youth league in Gwinnett …

Expect tight game for Duluth at Alpharetta.
I was humbled a bit last week in my predictions of high-school football games played in Patch coverage areas from Stone Mountain to Cumming. After a can-you-believe-it 21-3 record the first week, I cooled off to a 16-6 mark last week (38-9 overall). I only missed badly on one pick. Really. So, let's lace 'em up for another week. Are you ready? Duluth at Alpharetta: People might have overlooked this game when perusing the schedule before the season started. But this has the makings of an entertaining game. Alpharetta (1-1) ran into strong playoff contender last week in Mill Creek in a 42-7 loss, but the Raiders showed they can move the ball. The Duluth Wildcats are 2-0 and coming off a 55-21 win over Northview. OK, so it was Northview, but …
