New Dawn Theater Must Move

Letter from board informs friends and patrons that the City of Duluth has other plans for the space the theater occupies. The theater leases space from the city.

New Dawn Theater in Duluth is looking for a place to relocate. According to a letter from the theater’s board to friends and supporters, the theater is planning to leave its location on Main Street in downtown Duluth no later than early January 2014 because the City of Duluth has other plans for the space it occupies. The city is involved in a revitalization effort with an initial focus on creating a downtown dining and nightlife district in the Old City Hall Block, now called The Block, where the theater is located. The theater leases the space at a discounted rate on a month-to-month basis from the city, which owns the block. I think the city wants that block to be dead. Then they can push to have it torn down since it is not a sustainable area in its current state. Then several of the people in the city can push their own agendas to get a boutique hotel and other unwanted junk in there. New Dawn Presents Charming Comedy

The play, based on the 1922 novel 'Enchanted April,' is set in a romantic seaside villa in sunny Italy.

New Dawn Theater in Duluth will present “Enchanted April, ” a charming comedy set in sunny Italy, on Feb. 21, 22, 23, 24, 28 and March 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10. The curtain goes up at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Doors  open 30 minutes prior to curtain. The play is being directed by Sherry Ingbritsen, president and artistic director of New Dawn Theatre. Matthew Barber wrote the play based on a 1922 novel by Elizabeth Von Arnim. English housewives Lotty Wilton and Rose Arnott travel to Italy to escape unhappy marriages. Nostalgic Sinatra Era Show Coming to New Dawn

'Just the Two of Us' to perform famous crooner's songs at the Duluth theater Feb. 2.

New Dawn Theater in Duluth is presenting “Just the Two of Us,” a nostalgic show of Frank Sinatra era music featuring Mark Kurtz and Dona Cangelosi, Saturday, Feb. 2. Doors open at 8 p.m. for the show. Tickets are $15. Dancing cheek-to-cheek to Sinatra’s songs during the show is encouraged. January Offers Variety at New Dawn Theater

New Dawn presenting comedy show, Mark Twain tribute and one-act plays by four new directors.

New Dawn Theater Company in Duluth is starting the New Year off with a “Ladies of Mixed Nuts” comedy show, “An Evening with Mark Twain,” and a “New Directors Showcase.” Sue Ryerson and Mia Jackson will crack the audience up with their "Ladies of Mixed Nuts Comedy" Friday, Jan. 11, at 8 p.m. Jessica Carter of Radio Free Nasahville will be joining the ladies. 'A Caine Mutiny Court-Martial' Continues in Duluth

New Dawn Theater presenting the military courtroom drama on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 28.

New Dawn Theater Company’s fall production of "A Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" continues Thursdays-Sundays in Duluth through Oct. 28. The play is based on a novel by Herman Wouk drawn from his World War II experiences. Remaining performance dates are Oct. 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 27, and 28. Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m. with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors (51+) and children (16 and under). Groups of 10 or more get in to see the play for $10 each. The show may not be suitable for small children. Duluth’s New Dawn Theater Company presents powerful Pulitzer Prize-winning drama.

The powerful Putlitzer Prize-winning drama opened Thursday, Oct. 11, with a free 8 p.m. performance as part of the Gwinnett County Public Library's Fall Into the Arts program. See 'You Can't Take It With You'

The New Dawn Theater Company is presenting a Pulitzer Prize-winning drama that's actually a comedy Aug. 16-Sept. 2.

New Dawn Theater Company presents its production of the Moss Hart & George S. Kaufman comedy, “You Can’t Take It With You” on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Aug. 16-Sept. 2. Performances of the three-act comedic play, which won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for drama, are scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and for 2 p.m. Sundays. Judy McElroy is directing the play. “You Can’t Take It With You,” set in 1936 during the Great Depression, focuses on the eccentric Sycamore family and the proper Kirby family. New Dawn Theater Turned Into Beach Scene

Duluth community theater continues series of 10th anniversary events with a Beach Party Dance.

New Dawn Theater Company continued a series of 10th year anniversary events with a Beach Party Dance Saturday night. There was a DJ spinning popular dance tunes, grilled hot dogs, tropical decorations, and vintage beach party movies. The Best of Brews provided beer, wine and pina coladas to cool off from the heat. Guests donned casual summer attire for the July 7 event, which also served as a fundraiser for the community theater in downtown Duluth. "The event was a lot of fun. We had great food, a cool beach atmosphere, good friends to help us celebrate, and lots of dancing," said Sherry Ingbritsen, president and artistic director.

Be cool and comfortable in shorts, T-shirts, tank tops, and flip flops, sip pina coladas, and dance to beach music at New Dawn Theater’s Beach Party Dance from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 7. The party continues a series of 10th anniversary fun fundraisers hosted monthly by the community theater in downtown Duluth. DJ Josh Garcia will spin popular dance tunes for the “sun, sand & surf” set. 'Sleeping Beauty' Awakens in Duluth

Play based on popular fairy tale opens Thursday, May 31, at New Dawn Theater in Duluth and continues through June 17.

New Dawn Theater Company presents a delightful production of “The Sleeping Beauty” May 31-June 17. Performances occur at 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with matinees at 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.  Written by Charlotte Chorpenning, the play takes place in a castle long ago and far away. The evil “Frytania” is irked because she was not invited to Sleeping Beauty’s christening. She appears and imposes a curse on the princess.
