The Crucifixion of Jesus as seen through the eyes of Barabbas continues on stage at New Dawn Theater in Duluth. “Barabbas” will be presented through May 5. In the play, Barabbas, a murderer and a thief, is imprisoned at the same time as Jesus. Pontius Pilate frees Barabbas after angry crowds call for his release and the crucifixion of Jesus. Barabbas’ life changes after Jesus died for him, rose from the dead, and came to see him. Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for senior citizens 51-plus and children 16 and under. Discount tickets at $10 each are available for groups of 10 or more. Romantic comedy continues at New Dawn Theater Thursday through Sunday, March 7-10.
New Dawn Theater in Duluth is presenting the final performances of its production of “Enchanted April" Thursday, March 7-Sunday, March 10. The curtain goes up at 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. The romantic comedy, based on a 1922 novel of the same name, is set in a villa in sunny italy. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens 51+ and children 15 and under. New Dawn Theater in Duluth will host a romantic evening of dining and dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. The fourth annual Valentines Dinner Dance will feature dinner catered by Steverino’s and dancing to music by DJ Josh Garcia. A cash bar provided by Best of Brews will be available. Attire is semi-formal (party dresses or long gowns for the ladies and suits of tuxes for the men). Admission is $25 a person. Attendees must be 17 and older. This is the last weekend to see the original Christmas production of “A Not So Silent Night (A Soldier's Christmas Story)” at New Dawn Theater Company. The final performances are at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 21, 22 and 23, and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 22 and 23. The play is written and directed by Sherry Ingbritsen, president and artistic director of the New Dawn Theater. While his family is home preparing for a wonderful Christmas holiday in Kentucky, Rusty sits in a medical tent in Iraq, at the bedside of Joe, a wounded army buddy. New Dawn Theater Company is performing its original Christmas production of "A Not So Silent Night" (A Soldier's Christmas Story) Thursday, Dec. 6, through Dec. 23. The play is especially meaningful for families who have members serving in the military away from home during the holidays. Twenty-three decorated chairs turned in at Duluth Branch for contest as part of Gwinnett County Public Library's Fall Into the Arts program.
Drop by the Duluth Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library this week to see the creatively decorated chairs that have entered in for the “Chair-ish the Arts” competition. “Chairs have been turned in at all library branches, but Duluth had a monumental showing with 23 chairs,” Duluth Branch Librarian Lorena Gay-Griffin said. Most of Duluth’s entries were contributed by students at SKA Academy, a children’s art school in Duluth, she said. System-wide, 71 chairs were submitted. Voting on the chairs begins Monday, Oct. 8. Notebooks with photos of all chairs will be distributed to the various library branches in order for patrons to vote on their favorites. Votes may also be cast online.
