Major Delays on Route to Mall of Georgia

Gwinnett's Transportation Department warns of significant traffic on Buford Drive heading from Lawrenceville.

There is significant delay for traffic on SR 20/Buford Drive going from Lawrenceville to the Mall of Georgia area, according to a release from the Gwinnett County Transportation Department. Gwinnett engineers are monitoring the situation from the county's Traffic Control Center and making signal timing changes, the release says, but there is so much traffic that the changes have limited effectiveness.   For more information, contact the Department of Transportation at 770-822-7400.

Mall Hours for Black Friday Shopping

Area malls to open at midnight Thanksgiving night for holiday shoppers.

Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth and other area malls will give shoppers plenty of time to find items on their holiday gift lists. The mall will open at midnight Thanksgiving night (Nov. 22) and remain open continuously until 10 p.m. on Black Friday (Nov. 23). The mall will be open regular hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville will open its doors to shoppers on Thanksgiving night at 11:30 p.m. so customers can get in place for when stores open at midnight. The mall, formerly called Discover Mills, will stay open for shopping until Friday at 10 p.m. Then re-open Saturday, Nov. 24, at 9 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. On Sunday, the mall's hours are 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. The Mall of Georgia …

WITH VIDEO: Vehicle Totally Damaged by Fire Near Mall of Georgia

A blaze broke out near the Longhorn restaurant on Saturday evening. Another vehicle also was damaged.

A vehicle was destroyed by fire Saturday evening, Aug. 4, when flames broke out outside the Longhorn restaurant near the Mall of Georgia in Buford, according to a Gwinnett Fire spokesperson. Gwinnett Fire spokesperson Lt. Colin Rhoden said that a caller about 7 p.m. said that fire was close to the building, and Gwinnett Police noted that the fire was spreading quickly. On arrival, fire crews found one vehicle fully involved and part of the grass in the area on fire. -- Did you witness this blaze? Upload your pics, and add your comments. Mall of Georgia Shooting Off Fireworks, Showing Movie

Festivities get underway July 4 with concert and kids play followed by fireworks at dusk, movie.

The Mall of Georgia has packed its ninth annual Fabulous Fourth full of patriotic family-friendly festivities. The celebration is part of the Buford mall’s “Movies Under the Stars” series.  Free concerts start at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 4, in the Village Amphitheatre. The line-up includes the Ron Johnsons from 2 to 4 p.m., the Woody’s from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and the Atlanta Groove from 7 to 9 p.m. The Kids Zone featuring giant inflatables, train rides and games opens at 2 p.m. The grandest fireworks display in Gwinnett County is scheduled to begin at dusk followed by a free screening of the movie “Little Fockers.”  The mall also is introducing a Beer Garden, open to families but catering to the 21 and older crowd. Actor and singer Selena Gomez will greet fans and answer questions in the Village Amphitheatre at the Mall of Georgia from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16. The stop at the Mall of Georgia is part of a 10-city tour to promote her movie “Monte Carlo." Arrests Made in Mall of Georgia Armed Robberies

Two men charged with multiple counts of armed robbery.

Gwinnett County Police today announced the arrests of two men in connection with a string of armed robberies. Police have charged Stacey Lamont Dooley and Quinton Lamar Booker in connection with three armed robberies in Gwinnett County including two at the Mall of Georgia. Dooley is charged with three counts of armed robbery in Gwinnett and two counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Booker is also charged with three counts of armed robbery. Additional charges against Dooley and Booker, as well as other suspects, are under active investigation according to police. The first Gwinnett robbery occurred in November of 2010 at the Mall of Georgia Bank of America. The second Gwinnett robbery took place at the Wells Fargo in Centerville. On…

Concert promotion makes a fun event out of potty training.

OK, here's the poop. Sara Umana of Lawrenceville has been to the Mall of Georgia before, but now she's got 1-year old twins, Emy and Maximilian Barreto. So last week's event involving potty training had a sweet smell. Many other mothers of infants thought so, too. The national touring event sponsored by Pull-Ups, a Huggies brand, featured children's musical group Ralph's World. As the attached video shows, the music was entertaining and engaging.
