The weekly Gwinnett County road closure report from the Gwinnett DOT for May 11-17. The Gwinnett Department of Transportation says work associated with the construction of Pleasant Hill Road's diverging diamond interchange at Interstate 85 in Duluth require nightly lane closures. The lane closures should occur for three weeks, starting Sunday, May 12. Closures are expected between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. One other construction project was added to this week's list of lane closures: Lawrenceville Two others were removed: Buford: Camp Branch Road from Kilgore Road to Wallace Road, which saw culvert improvements. Lilburn: Baltimore Avenue from Village Creek Drive intersection, which had drainage improvements.

Today and tomorrow, expect inside lane closures on I-85 during off-peak hours. The closures are happening as part of the I-85 Express Lane Project, in which the current HOV lane is being converted to a HOT lane by the Georgia DOT. The road work will only happen if weather permits. The daytime work will occur between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wed., June 1 and Thurs., June 2 between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Pleasantdale Road. Expect the inside lane in both the northbound and southbound direction to be closed. The nighttime work will occur between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Wed., June 1 and Thurs., June 2. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced it is suspending construction-related lane closures during the Memorial Day weekend. Motorists will be able to enjoy the open lanes from 5 a.m. Friday, May 27, until 10 p.m. Monday, May 30. GDOT is advising travelers to exercise caution as heavy holiday traffic is expected. “Historically, Georgia experiences more than 2,000 crashes resulting in more than a dozen fatalities and more than a thousand injuries during the Memorial Day Weekend,” said Transportation Commissioner Vance. C. Smith Jr. in the announcement. “Enjoy your holiday, but please be very careful while driving.”

As part of the conversion of the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes on I-85 to High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes, the Georgia Department of Transportation will continue work to install more than 60 signs along the I-85 corridor this week. The work is taking place overnight. Traffic pacing may occur between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. This week, as weather permits, one or two segments of the HOV or inside lanes along the median wall in both directions will be closed. Northbound lane closures will take place between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and southbound closures will occur from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Up to three lanes could be closed after midnight.
