Lake Lanier Islands Resorts to flip the switch on 20th anniversary holiday lights driving tour Nov 16. Tour continues through Dec. 31.

Lake Lanier Islands Resort® in Buford will flip the switch on its Magical Nights of Lights for the 20th year on Friday, Nov. 16. During its debut on Nov. 20, 1993, occupants of an estimated 76 cars saw about 40 animated light displays and stopped to visit with Santa in a large tent at the end of the tour. Over the past two decades, the show has drawn an estimated 200,000 to 250,000 people through the gates of Lake Lanier Islands for the holiday lights driving tour. Boating accidents that have claimed the lives of three youths in the past two months on Lake Lanier have prompted Lake Lanier Islands Resort officials to install a new safety feature -- channel markers. Currently bobbing off the shore of the Sunset Cove area of Lake Lanier Islands are red and green channel markers, designed to aid in navigation through the busy harbor, according to a news release. -- What do you think of this safety measure at Lake Lanier? Potentially lucky golfers will again have the opportunity to make the shot of a lifetime and win the grand prize as the $1 Million Challenge returns to the Legacy on Lanier Golf Club. The challenge made its debut last fall on the scenic golf course at nearby Lake Lanier Islands Resort. Twelve of the course’s 18 holes are set on the shores of Lake Lanier. The Legacy on Lanier Golf Club announced that Daily Qualifiers for the Challenge start Friday, May 25, and continue through Thursday, June 21. The Duluth area's unofficial "beach" -- Lanier World at Lake Lanier Islands -- will open Saturday, May 12. According to an announcement from Lake Lanier Islands Resort, LanierWorld will have some new touches this year. The main one is that a Ferris wheel and Super Slide have been added to the LanierWorld beach area that debuted in 2011. I recently had the opportunity to visit this year's Magical Nights of Lights at Lake Lanier Islands Resort and was not disappointed. It was truly a fun experience as I marveled at all of the holiday displays full of lights, lights and more lights.
