Interior designers Jana Contardi and Jennifer Cook are opening Peace, Love & Decorating “softly” today (May 3) on Main Street in historic downtown Duluth. The retail store is an extension of their successful online business. A grand opening is planned in 60 to 90 days. Their store offers furniture, home décor, designer lighting, luxury bedding, boutique jewelry and gifts, fashion accessories, holiday ornaments, and interior design services. Customers will also find girls decor and bedding from Deck My Dorm and My Royal Sister, both divisions of Peace, Love & Decorating. “After numerous and repeated requests from our customers, we decided to open a retail storefront to compliment our e-commerce sites,” said Cook in announcing the opening. “…

For the want of a rug, a Duluth business was launched. When Stacie Stamper and her family arrived in Duluth, it was via a number of places worldwide, including London, Germany, Texas, and Singapore. While residing in the latter, she developed an interest in Oriental rugs. As a result, when it came time to decorate her home in Sugarloaf, she was unable to find anything to her liking, despite a search of over a year. One day at a gas station, she spied a Liberty Oriental Rug truck, asked to take a look at their cargo and was smitten. Unfortunately, they were not a retail dealer, so she couldn’t purchase from them. “I followed the truck back to the warehouse,” Stamper remembered, “and just kept talking my way in farther inside." fyi Duluth design studio renovates 150-year-old retail space offering an UPTOWN shopping experience in Historic Downtown Duluth. Grand reopening July 5.
Taking a deep breath to persevere and enter its third year of business, the fyi Duluth design studio cooperative has spent the past three months renovating. The talented design team at the downtown Duluth business is optimistic about a new beginning. The 150-year-old retail space, formerly Parson's Hardware at 3097 Main St., now offers state-of-the-art products and services for the home and garden. A decision was made by the fyi design team to step up instead of step out of their location. In other words, renovate or vacate. With the impending arrival of Pure Taqueria and the other new Main Street merchants, foot traffic is expected to increase and the demographics to shift toward attracting young professionals. Stacie is a "community thinker"... so appreciate her ideas to help bring people to the downtown area to shop, walk, and get to know the businesses in the historic area.
