Davina Cates sells sells vintage antiques and home accessories in her shop in historic downtown Duluth.
Davina Cates opened The Vintage Styled Life in early May at 3107C Main Street in downtown Duluth. Her charming shop celebrated its grand opening May 11-12, the same weekend as the Barefoot in the Park Fine Arts Festival. The Vintage Styled Life is located in a 130-year-old building owned by Mike Burrell at the corner of Main and West Lawrenceville streets. The shop's entrance fronts on West Lawrenceville Street. Cates sells vintage antiques and home accessories in her 1,500-square-foot shop and rents items as props for weddings, parties, photo shoots, and other special events. Retail merchants and restaurants in Historic Downtown Duluth are launching 1st Thursday May 2. More than a dozen downtown businesses will stay open late and offer discounts and giveaways from 4 to 10 p.m. Participating merchants include several new shops. The 1st Thursday activities will continue through the summer and possibly fall. Opening a second store in Duluth was almost like coming home for Trish Land. The store that bears her name features “goods for the home and garden.” Land is a Georgia girl raised in Albany. She lived in Atlanta for 10 years, moved to Boulder, CO, where she spent another 10 years, then moved back to the South to be closer to family. Sixty musicians will pay tribute to live music advocate Eddie Owen in a six-show concert series in June at the Red Clay Theatre. The “Live Music Matters” concerts honor Owen’s 20-year legacy of promoting musicians in Atlanta and the 2011 opening of his “Eddie Owen Presents” music venue at RCT in Duluth. Shows are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 22; 5 and 9 p.m. Saturday, June 23; 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24; and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 26. RCT doors open an hour prior to the concerts. “Eddie Owen Presents” is staging three exciting concerts this week at the Red Clay Theatre in Duluth. Levi Lowrey, a fiddle and guitar player who evolved into songwriting, is appearing Thursday, May 17, with special guest Travis Meadows. New Dawn Theater Company’s spring production of “Murder on the Nile” will be a dinner theater on the weekends. The play opens Thursday, Aug. 19, and continues through May 6. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. A Mediterranean dinner will be catered by OPA! at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays followed by performances at 8 p.m. Beer and wine will be available from the Best of Brews on dinner theater nights. Eddie Owen Presents at the Red Clay Theatre in Duluth will host Alabama singer-songwriter Kristy Lee performing on stage this Saturday, April 7. “Her voice like thunder, rolling in before a sweet southern rain, instantly washes the world away.
