Hannah Rinehart, Wife of South Gwinnett Teacher, Passes Away

After a months-long battle, Hannah Rinehart died Wednesday morning at 4:15.

Hannah Rinehart, wife of South Gwinnett math teacher Mark Rinehart, passed away Wednesday morning (Sept. 5) at 4:15 a.m. "She is celebrating," Mark wrote on a Facebook page in her honor, "and I am thankful for God allowing me to have the privilege of being her husband while she was here on this Earth. Family was present, and when Hannah was ready to go, she left quickly." Hannah, 32, was a patient care technician in DeKalb County. She and Mark lived in Decatur.  She contracted a bacterial infection the last weekend of June which resulted in blood poisoning. Complications led to the amputations of both hands and feet, but the biggest challenge was fluid in her lungs. Yesterday, doctors told the family that she was very, very tired. "Thank …

Family of Quadruple Amputee Pleads for School Board Policy Change

Friends and family of Hannah Rinehart make a case for creating a sick leave pool during the Gwinnett County School Board meeting, but left with no promises.

Family and friends filled the room as the Rineharts spoke before the Gwinnett County School Board Thursday night, pleading with the board to change the district’s sick leave policy.  Mark Rinehart, Hannah's husband, is a math teacher at South Gwinnett High School.  He now has a little over 20 days of sick leave left before he loses his pay and his insurance. According to family, that’s not nearly enough time, and so they are asking that the school board allow fellow teachers to donate their paid time off (PTO).  Mark's hope is that people will be able to donate their unused PTO to him.
