Injured GCPS Resource Officer Recovering

Jimenez is rehabilitating from injuries suffered in an accident outside Lanier High in February.

Rolando Jimenez, the Gwinnett County Public Schools resource officer who was injured while directing traffic in February, appears to be recovering well. In a recent Facebook post, his wife Melissa said: Officer Jimenez is doing so good in therapy. In PT they've worked on how to use the walker and wheelchair while out in the community-automatic doors, carpet, uneven surfaces, elevator safety, etc. Officer Jimenez has also practiced using the walker to get up and down a curb or sidewalk. They also introduced him to crutches and how to properly use them. This will help tremendously once Officer Jimenez is released. It will allow him to go ip and down 2-3 steps which is not possible with a walker and only using 1 leg. He will now be able to …

GCPS Resource Officer Injured While Directing Traffic

Updated: 3 p.m. Feb. 13 A Gwinnett County Schools police resource officer was seriously injured in an accident involving two passenger cars about 6:45 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 13) near Lanier High School in Buford, Gwinnett Police said. The officer was later identified as Rolando Jiminez. The accident happened while he was directing traffic at the north entrance of the school, which is located on Buford Highway, police said. The GCPS officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The preliminary investigation indicated that Sydney Smigiel, 22, of Buford was traveling southbound in a white 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Buford Highway and intended to continue southbound, according to an update issued by Cpl.
