Andruw Jones' Wife Files for Divorce in Gwinnett

The divorce filing followed a domestic incident between Jones and his wife at their home in unincorporated Duluth. Andruw Jones was charged with battery in the incident.

The Miami Herald reported Wednesday (Jan. 2) that Nicole D. Jones, the wife of former Atlanta Braves star Andruw R. Jones, has filed for divorce. Duluth Patch confirmed through court records that Mrs. Jones filed for divorce Monday (Jan. 31) in Gwinnett County Superior Court in Lawrenceville. The divorce filing followed the early Christmas Day arrest of Andruw Jones at the couple’s Sugarloaf Country Club home in unincorporated Duluth. He was arrested and charged with battery by Gwinnett Police as the result of a domestic incident involving his wife. Andruw Jones Charged With Battery in Domestic Dispute

Gwinnett Police arrested Jones after responding to a domestic dispute call at his and his wife's home in unincorporated Duluth early Christmas morning.

Former Atlanta Braves centerfielder Andruw R. Jones was arrested and charged with battery in a domestic dispute that occurred between he and his wife at their home in unincorporated Duluth early Christmas morning, Gwinnett Police reported. Gwinnett Police responded to a domestic dispute call at the Jones home about 1:25 a.m. Dec. 25. During the investigation of this call, probable cause was developed to arrest Jones for battery, according to police. Jones was transported to Gwinnett County Jail and charged with battery, police reported. He was booked into the jail at 3:48 a.m. Tuesday and released at 11 a.m. after posting a $2,400 bond, according to jail records. Gwinnett Police Holiday Task Force to Put Extra Eyes in Community

Between Thanksgiving and the end of the year, Gwinnett County Police Department will operate its annual Holiday Task Force to help cut down on crime against holiday shoppers.

Starting in the evening hours of Thanksgiving Day, the Gwinnett County Police Department will be operating its annual Holiday Task Force. According to a press release from GCPD, this year the Holiday Task Force will operate on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The operation, with the intent to reduce crime against holiday shoppers," will end on Dec. 31. Officials said while the Holiday Task Force should help reduce crime against holiday shoppers, other types of crimes also typically increase during this season, such as entering autos, robberies, financial fraud and DUIs. They offer the following tips to stay safe during the holidays:

Son Suspected in Murder of Elderly Mother Arrested

Gwinnett Police confirm Mark Wilson was arrested Wednesday evening.

The man wanted in connection to the stabbing death of his disabled and elderly mother has been arrested. Gwinnett County Police Department's Cpl. Jake Smith confirmed that Mark Wilson, 42, was arrested Wednesday at about 6:40pm. Officers found a champagne colored 2006 Toyota Camry reported missing from the home of Phyllis Wilson, 72, at a QuickTrip at the intersection of Grayson Highway (S.R. 20) and Simonton Road. This was less than two miles away from the crime scene. Wilson was taken into custody without incident.  Mrs. Wilson was found dead in her home at 1139 Simonton Glen Way Tuesday morning by her husband and caretaker. She was partially paralyzed. Man Killed by Garbage Truck in Norcross Area

Gwinnett Police report the truck struck the man at a business on Dawson Boulevard.

One man is dead and a driver is facing no charges following a Thursday morning accident in unincorporated Norcross, near Interstate 85. According to Gwinnett County police, the deceased man is 67-year-old Douglas Ezell of Norcross. Police say the man was hit in the 6400 block of Dawson Boulevard when a garbage truck backed into him about 8:30 a.m. He died at the scene. "The investigation revealed that the garbage truck was properly backing up after emptying a Dumpster at the location," officials said in a press release. "Ezell was loitering in the parking lot and approached the truck in a blind spot." The garbage truck was driving at a low rate of speed, police said. Technology Park Victim Remains a Mystery

Gwinnett Police said he body of the man found Monday in Technology Park in Peachtree Corners has not been identified.

The body of the man found in Technology Park early Monday morning has yet to be identified. Cpl. Edwin Ritter, spokesman for Gwinnett County Police, said an autotopsy was performed on the body, and police are waiting for the results. Early Monday morning police were called to 25 Technology Parkway South in Peachtree Corners where the body of a white male, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing around 200 pounds, was found. The man sustained several wounds to the head, and the homicide unit was called in to investigate. Tuesday, an autopsy was perfomed and the medical examiner said the man likely did not die from his wounds. "There is no real trama on his body," said Ritter. "It's most likely an overdose." Bath Salts Incidents Increase

Gwinnett police are stepping up efforts to find the suppliers of this dangerous drug and expanding training to deal with suspects, many of whom exhibit superhuman strength.

Reports of people allegedly under the influence of bath salts continue to make headlines.   Most recently, Gwinnett County Police were called to the scene of a Duluth man who was acting "bizarre" and ate his own feces.  That story came just days after news broke out about an Alpharetta man, also allegedly high on bath salts, was tasered 14 times when police found him running rampant around a Norcross-area driving range. UPDATE: Peachtree Corners Man Dies in Apparent Drug Deal

Police are investigating the Thursday shooting death of a 40-year-old man at the Hidden Cove Apartments.

UPDATE: June 16, 2012 Gwinnett Police are investigating the Thursday night death of a Hidden Cove Apartments resident who apparently was caught in the middle of a drug deal that had gone bad. Gwinnet Police found a 40-year-old black male in the parking lot of the apartment complex dead from several gun shot wounds. The man was later identified as Ulice Leatherberry. Police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said that Leatherberry had been involved in a drug deal earlier in the day and apparently the buyers were not "satisfied with the drugs they had purchased and attempted to get their money back from the victim." Two Duluth Bank Robbery Suspects Arrested

They were pursued and apprehended after they fled the scene in a vehicle and exited I-85 at Pleasantdale Road.

Two suspects have been arrested in the Tuesday (May 15) armed robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at 3072 Old Norcross Road in Duluth. The arrests were announced by Atlanta Division Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Brian D. Lamkin and Gwinnett Police Chief Charles M. Walters in a FBI press release. At about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, two men entered the bank wearing masks and brandishing at least one semi-auto handgun, according to the release. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, they were observed departing the bank in a maroon Honda Accord and fleeing southbound on Interstate 85. Sheriff's Office Fills Void in Speed Enforcement

Gwinnett Sheriff's Office partnered with Gwinnett Police and city police departments to monitor county roads and city streets.

  During the past year of negotiations between Gwinnett County and its cities on a Service Delivery Strategy, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office has been monitoring city streets and county highways, according to an announcement from the Sheriff’s Department. During that period Gwinnett Police and city police departments were unable to use radar guns or laser to catch speeders. The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office has been actively operating radar and laser speed detection on various streets and highways in the community since municipal and county police were unable to renew their licenses, the announcement stated.
