Gwinnett Police have identified the person who was shot dead Monday (May 13) in Buford in an officer-involved shooting as Rodney Pike, 38, of Buford. According to a police news release, Pike had warrants issued for him out of Forsyth County. The incident arose when police responded to a "wanted person located" call at 5307 Pass Court address in Buford about 3:39 p.m. Monday, police said. The caller also advised that Pike was a drug user and would run from police. According to the Gwinnett Police news release: Several officers arrived on scene at 3:58 PM. The suspect in a home invasion is dead after being shot by police in the Norcross area. According to Gwinnett County Police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter, the suspect forced entry into a home at Woodland Ridge Apartments at 301 Tree Trail Pkwy. in unincorporated Norcross Monday morning (April 22). He later was identified by police as Eric Andrews, 24, of Atlanta. Two apartment was occupied by two children waiting by themselves for someone to pick them up for school. After the suspect knocked on the door, the children looked through the peephole of the door and refused to answer it since they didn't recognize him. Gwinnett firefighters rescued after standoff at home in nearby Suwanee Wednesday.
The hostage-taker, who was pronounced deceased Wednesday (April 10) in Suwanee after exchanging gunfire with Gwinnett SWAT officers, apparently was motivated by financial concerns. Gwinnett Police spokesperson Ed Ritter said Wednesday evening that the person who originally held five Gwinnett firefighters hostage had requested during negotiations that the power and other utilities be turned back on at his home, which was reportedly in foreclosure. The situation ended about 7:30 p.m. in a subdivision near Walnut Grove Elementary when police made the decision to go into the home at 2440 Walnut Grove Way. Gwinnett County Police are investigating a fatal car crash involving a wrong-way driver on Highway 316. Authorities received many reports on the vehicle around 2 a.m. Saturday (March 30), according to a news release from Gwinnett County spokesman Sgt. Rich Long. The car had been traveling north on I-85 South in DeKalb County and made its way to driving east on Highway 316 West in Gwinnett. The vehicle eventually struck two guard rails and broke into two pieces. The driver, a male, died at the scene. The identity of the driver has not been released. Three Gwinnett teens have been charged with the recent thefts of four iPhones from students at Peachtree Ridge High in Suwanee. Gwinnett Police said Friday (March 29) in a statement that they were aided by an iCloud tracking procedure in the investigation. The thefts occurred in early March. The suspects and charges: Police reported they initially met with the father of one of the victims, who had tracked the stolen phone via iCloud to a restaurant in Duluth. Eventually, Gwinnett Police and the father followed the phone via iCloud to a Lawrenceville residence. Gwinnett Police are looking for suspects in two unrelated burglaries, one of which took place in unincorporated Norcross and the other in unincorporated Lawrenceville.
Gwinnett County Police are seeking the public's assistance in two unrelated burglary investigations, one of which took place in unincorporated Norcross and the other in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The Norcross investigation involves a series of 10 burglaries that began in December 2012, according to Cpl. Jake Smith, public information officer for the GCPD. The burglaries have been all commercial, mainly on South Norcross-Tucker Road, and usually take place after dark. Each of these locations contained a massage chair which users activate by depositing money. The suspect would pry open the cash box attached to each chair in the incidents. Gwinnett County Police are searching for a "possibly suicidal and homicidal" man that fled from police during a Jan. 11 traffic stop in Buford. According to police, a uniform patrol officer stopped a silver 2003 VW Passat bearing Iowa tag 608ZBD at approximately 10:11 a.m. on Friday after the vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of Nelson Brogdon Boulevard and Buford Highway. After stopping the vehicle near the intersection of South Lee Street and Buford Highway, the officer informed the driver of the reason for the stop. One suspect in an armed robbery of a Wells Fargo bank in Lawrenceville last month is now in police custody. However, Gwinnett County Police are still looking for two potential accomplices in the crime. On Friday, Dec. 28, two black males wearing masks walked into the Wells Fargo bank at 3065 Lawrenceville Highway just before 9:30 a.m. This branch is located in the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market in unincorporated Lawrenceville. The two men inside the bank have been identified by GCPD as 26-year-old Jamar Terrell of 2769 Herrington Woods Road in Lawrenceville and 24-year-old Marcus “Bankhead” Rutledge.
