Three Arrested in Gambling Raid at Duluth Bar

Gwinnett Police conduct raid, seize funds at Sweetwater Bar & Grill.

A Suwanee man was among three people arrested earlier this month in a gambling raid on a Gwinnett business, according to police. On May 3, Gwinnett Police executed a search warrant for commercial gambling at the Sweetwater Bar and Grill on Old Norcross Road in Duluth, according to police records. Fred Benjamin Ferguson of a McGinnis Ferry Road address in Suwanee, a manager, was arrested on charges of commercial gambling, keeping a gambling place, and possession of gambling devices, police said. Also arrested were Katherine Stephens of Marietta, a bartender, on a commercial gambling charge; and bar owner Elie W. Men Charged After Crashing Into Women's Restroom From Ceiling at Duluth Value Cinemas

The cousins, one of whom is a Suwanee resident, face peeping tom and public drunkenness charges.

A Suwanee resident and his cousin face peeping tom and public drunkenness charges after Gwinnett Police said they crashed into a theater's women's restroom from the ceiling above. "Just being stupid," one arrestee said of the April 28 incident at the Venture Value Cinemas in Duluth, according to the incident report. Eduard Alexander Kovynev of a Dalwood Drive address in Suwanee was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center on April 29. His cousin, Eduard Petrovich Kovynev of a Rex, GA, address was arrested on similar charges. The matter was first noticed by a Gwinnett Police officer working an off-duty job at the theater. Gwinnett Police Looking for Armed Robbery Suspect

He took an employee hostage, held a knife to her throat, threatened to kill her, and tried to rob the Fresh 2 def store in Mall Corners.

Gwinnett Police are looking for a suspect who took an employee hostage, held a knife to her throat, threatened to kill her, and tried to rob the Fresh 2 def store in Mall Corners on Pleasant Hill Road in unincorporated Duluth. The suspect was described by the store owner and the employee as a Hispanic male (5’7,” 120 lbs.) between the ages of 15-20 wearing a hoodie, black pants,  a white T-shirt with the word “Obey” defined in red, and black tennis shoes with white bottoms. He also was carrying a black backpack. He has brown eyes and black hair faded on the sides leaving about two inches on top with gel. They told police that the knife was long with a serrated edge and brass knuckles for a handle. The robbery occurred between 6:07 and 6:37…

Gwinnett Police Conducting Gun Safety Seminar

Register now for the seminar scheduled April 4 at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center.

Attention, gun owners and others interested in firearms safety! The Gwinnett Police Department will conduct a Firearm Safety Seminar Thursday, April 4, from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville. According to a GCPD news release, personnel from the Gwinnett Police Academy will cover several topics, including Georgia carry and deadly force laws, how to obtain a carry permit, personal defense, and types of weapons and their use. Attendees are not to bring firearms to this event and will have to pass a security checkpoint. Seating is limited to 300, so attendees are asked to register by emailing gunsafety@gwinnettcounty.com.

Accused Fry's Shoplifter Tasered, Arrested, Charged

Tyrall Mikal Jackson, 19, was charged with theft by shoplifting, possession of tools for commission of crime, obstruction of a law officer, and giving a false name and date of birth.

A Berkmar High student living in Lawrenceville was tasered and arrested in connection withshoplifting at Fry's Electronics in Duluth earlier this month.  Tyrall Mikal Jackson, 19, was charged with theft by shoplifting, possession of tools for commission of crime, obstruction of law officer, and giving a false name and date of birth. According to the Gwinnett County Police report, officers responded to the Commerce Avenue store around 4:45 p.m. Feb. 16  after the theft was reported. The suspect had fled on foot toward Venture Parkway. Another officer in the area made contact with a man matching his description, and he kept him detained until other officers arrived, but it wasn't easy. Police: Bomb Threat Made in Duluth-Area Bank Robbery

Gwinnett County Police spokesman says the suspect gave the teller a note saying he had a bomb.

Gwinnett County Police are looking for a man who is suspected of robbing a Chase Bank Monday, Feb. 18, after threatening that he had a bomb. According to a press release emailed Tuesday afternoon, police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said the robbery was reported at the Chase Bank at 3780 Old Norcross Road in unincorporated Duluth around 1:15 p.m. Monday. "The suspect gave a note to a teller indicating that he had a bomb and wanted money," Smith wrote. The suspect is described as an average-built white male in his late 40s or early 50s wearing blue jeans, tab jacket and black knit cap. (See photo.) Local Officers Sharpen Forensic Skills

Twenty-seven officers from various police departments trained in a week-long class that covered shooting reconstruction, gunshot residue and more.

Law enforcement officers trained this week at the Gwinnett County Police Department to strengthen their crime investigation skills through a shooting reconstruction course. The course was part of the kickoff for the Forensic Training Source, a new non-profit organization based in Cumming that is dedicated to law enforcement training nationwide. The week-long class covered a number of scenarios including gunshot residue, identifying bullet marks, motor vehicles as a target surface, and report writing. FTS owner Nathan Lefebvre said author Patricia Cornwell has been a tremendous help to the first group of trainees. Known for her Kay Scarpetta crime novels, Cornwell donated scholarships to all 27 participants in the class. While the officers …

In response to the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, the Gwinnett County Police Department announced Friday it is increasing patrols at schools in Duluth and throughout the county. Cpl. Gwinnett Police Identify Apartment Homicide Victim

Officers responding to a report of a shooting at Menlo Creek Apartments find an adult male dead from a gunshot wound.

UPDATE: The victim of the homicide last Friday at the Menlo Park Apartments was identified by Gwinnett Police Monday as Robert Mixon, 33, who lived in rhe apartment complex. Detectives are actively investigating this case and do not believe this was a random crime. No additional details of the investigation will be released at this time. ~ Gwinnett Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Friday afternoon at the Menlo Creek Apartments in unincorporated Duluth.
