Three games scheduled this week will go a long way in establishing the front-runners in regions 7-AAAAAA and 8-AAAAAA. Gwinnett Football Predictions, Sept. 21

Norcross vs. Duluth selected as Game of the Week.

Gwinnett Football Game of the Week Duluth (1-2) at Norcross (3-0) Patch's reader-decided Gwinnett Game of the Week is an old-time football rivalry that dates back to 1921, according to data from the Georgia High School Football Historians Association. The rivalry has been one-sided in Norcross' favor the last two decades. Norcross has won eight in a row over the Wildcats, and 15 of the last 17 meetings. But that hasn't always been the case. There wasn't a more even rivalry in Gwinnett in the 70s and 80s — the teams split 20 games 9-9-2 from 1970 to '89. Norcross, ranked No. 3 in Class AAAAAA and coming off last week's big 31-21 win at North Gwinnett, looks to be the better team. The Blue Devils are playing well in all areas and could very …

Gwinnett Football Chatter: Should Grayson Be Out of the Top 10?

A week ago, Grayson was No. 1 in Georgia and the nation. Now they're unranked altogether. What do you think about that?

Earlier this week, a blogger on ajc.com asked if it was too harsh to drop previously top-ranked Grayson all of the way out of the top 10 in Class AAAAAA after its 22-7 loss at Parkview. Part of the justification for the drop, according to blogger Todd Holcomb, was that the rankings reflect where the teams are now and not an indication where they'll finish. (By the way, former No. 3 Walton also fell out of the rankings after a lopsided loss to North Cobb). "Losing 22-7 to an unranked team is not playing like a Top 10 team," explained Holcomb, who also is one of the founders of the Georgia High School Football Daily newsletter, which covers state football better than anyone else. Rankings are a tough thing to do. I know. In my more than 20 …

Gwinnett Football Chatter: Central's Dynamic Duo

What's up in Gwinnett football? Central's offense impresses, Shiloh-Berkmar is actually an important game, and Norcross-North Gwinnett is Big Game I.

It's early in the season and a lot of things can happen between now and the playoffs, but you've gotta like what Central Gwinnett High School has done with its first two football games. The Black Knights are 2-0, averaging 36 points and have perhaps the county's best passing duo in quarterback Eman Westmoreland and receiver Justin Brownlee, who have combined for 339 yards and four touchdowns. Last week, they combined for 10 completions for 251 yards and three touchdowns. Westmoreland is a multi-talented player, with 569 yards passing, 128 yards rushing and a punting average of 36 yards. He accounted for five TDs in last week's 45-42 win over Clarke Central. Some might question Central's ability to stop opposing offenses, but for now, we …
