Gingrich Speaking in Duluth on Super Tuesday

GOP presidential candidate to speak at Gwinnett Chamber breakfast March 6 at 1818 Club.

  Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has called his home state of Georgia important to his election success in 2012, and he's showing it again by returning to Gwinnett County. The former U.S. House Speaker from Georgia plans to be in Duluth on Super Tuesday (March 6) and speak at a 7:45 a.m. Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce Public Policy Breakfast. Gingrich recently spoke in Suwanee in Gwinnett and in Cumming in Forsyth County. Georgia is among 11 states that will hold primaries or caucuses on March 6, and with 73 delegates at stake, this state is the biggest prize that day. A Bright Night for Rainbow Village

Rainbow Village, a Duluth-based transitional housing program that provides support services to homeless families with children, presented with D. Scott Hudgens Humanitarian Award.

  The Rev. Nancy Yancey, CEO of Duluth-based Rainbow Village, accepted the D. Scott Hudgens Humanitarian Award before a sold out crowd of 1,000 business and community leaders at the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce’s 64th annual dinner Feb. 3 at Gwinnett Center in Duluth. The award is named for the late Scott Hudgens, a respected Gwinnett County developer and philanthropist. Founded 20 years ago, Rainbow Village provides transitional housing and support services to homeless families with children. Chamber to Honor Rainbow Village at Annual Dinner

Transitional housing program for homeless families to receive D. Scott Hudgens Humanitarian Award.

  Rainbow Village has been selected to receive the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce’s D. Scott Hudgens Humanitarian Award to be presented at the chamber’s 64th Annual Dinner Friday, Feb. 3, 2012. “Rainbow Village will be recognized before a crowd of over 1,000 community leaders for embodying the spirit of compassion and generosity to which Hudgens was so deeply committed,” according to an announcement in Rainbow Village’s newsletter. Duluth-based Rainbow Village, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2011, is a transitional housing program for homeless families with children that works to break the cycles of homelessness, poverty and domestic violence. Masino DUI Arraignment Set for Tuesday

The Gwinnett State Court appearance is over his arrest in Suwanee in August.

Gwinnett Chamber VP Nick Masino is scheduled to appear in Gwinnett State Court in Lawrenceville on Tuesday in a case arising from his DUI arrest in Suwanee in August. Masino, a Suwanee resident and former Suwanee mayor, is to appear before Judge John Doran, according to Gwinnett court records. The case was moved from Suwanee Municipal Court. Masino was arrested after his vehicle was spotted swerving by Suwanee Police on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road the night of Aug. 3. Earlier, an off-duty officer saw Masino's vehicle swerving on I-85 and contacted Suwanee Police, according to arrest recors. Masino declined to complete a field sobriety test at the arrest scene and was taken to the Gwinnett Detention Center, where he was released on bond. …

Primerica Relocating But Staying in Gwinnett, Duluth

Company consolidating and leasing built-to-suit three-story building at Legacy office park.

Duluth-based Primerica Inc. is relocating its headquarters, but is staying in Gwinnett County and keeping its Duluth address. Primerica announced Monday it has entered into an agreement with Duke Realty to lease a 344,476-square-foot build-to-suit facility for its new international headquarters. Since 1985 Primerica’s headquarters have been located in Gwinnett County at 3100 and 3120 Breckinridge Blvd. in unincorporated Duluth. The current campus includes leases on 10 separate buildings covering 385,217 square feet. The new facility will consolidate Primerica’s operations in the 10 buildings into one three-story building with two connected wings. Leadership Gwinnett Class Named

Forty selected for 27th class to learn about county, train to be future leaders from August to May.

From this August through May next year, representatives of Gwinnett business, civic, and cultural entities will be learning about the county and preparing for future leadership roles. The 40 participants of the 2011-12 Class of Leadership Gwinnett were chosen from nearly 800 nominations for the nine-month experience, according to an announcement by the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. Leadership Gwinnett alumni selected the final group based on work experience, accomplishments, community involvement, education, and other information. This group will be the 27th Leadership Gwinnett class. Gwinnett Chamber Hosting Expo, Job Fair Today

The Work Spot in Duluth and businesses who work there including Duluth Patch will have a booth at the Expo.

The 2011 Gwinnett Chamber Business Expo & Job Fair offers opportunities for more than 200 exhibitors to generate new business and job seekers to approach companies with openings on Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Convention Center at Gwinnett Center from noon to 5 p.m.  The Business EXPO and Job Fair follows a chamber General Membership Luncheon featuring Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens as the speaker. A new attraction at the Expo this year is a silent auction presented by Delta Community Credit Union. The silent auction requires potential bidders to scavenge for ‘credits’ to use to bid on items by visiting booths. No money is required to participate in the silent auction. Gwinnett Chamber Drive Based on Movie '300'

All-volunteer campaign has goal of generating $800,000 and recruiting 100 new members.

The Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce launches its all volunteer-led Membership and Sponsorship Campaign today (Aug. 10) with a goal of $800,000 and 100 new members. The campaign will continue through January 2012, according to an announcement by the chamber. Titled “800,” the campaign has a Spartan theme based on the movie “300.” The campaign will be led by Co-Chairs Raymer Sale with E2E Resources and Herman Pennamon Jr. Campaign volunteers will be recruiting new members and selling memberships, sponsorships and advertising in chamber publications. The chamber will encourage participants to “Prepare for Glory” throughout the fall at reward sessions every other week at various locations around the county that will culminate in a victory …

Gwinnett Chamber VP Apparently Back on Job

Masino, a former Suwanee mayor, was arrested for DUI late Wednesday.

Gwinnett Chamber VP Nick Masino apparently was back on the job Friday, after an arrest on DUI charges late Wednesday in Suwanee. Masino's Twitter account (@nickmasino) contained several posts dated Friday related to Gwinnett business. He could not be reached for comment via phone or email relating to the arrest by Suwanee Police. Masino, mayor of Suwanee from 2000-07, was jailed at the Gwinnett Detention Center late Wednesday; Suwanee Police observed his vehicle swerving on I-85 and later Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road before he pulled over to a Zaxby's restaurant. He did not complete a field sobriety test and was handcuffed and taken to jail. He was released on bond shortly after. The next stop for the arrest matter would be either Suwanee …

Gov. Deal, Technology Firms Push Jobs in Georgia

Technology Association of Georgia brings governor, legislators to McKesson for a pep rally on the state's technology industry strengths.

Gov. Nathan Deal visited one of Alpharetta's high-tech companies along with members of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) to publicize the strength of the state's technology industries. More than 13,000 technology companies employ more than 250,000 Georgians, Deal said. McKesson, one of those companies, was the site for TAG's efforts today to push that technology is "Where Georgia Leads," the buzzwords for the initiative. Deal and TAG officials identified health IT, logistics, financial technology, information security and IT communications as Georgia's strong points. Deal said meetings will be held in Savannah, Macon and Cartersville to discuss what elements are needed in a strategic plan for science and technology in Georgia. …
