Career Fair Coming to Duluth for UGA Alumni

Registration is preferred for the June 12 event. Last year, more than 100 employers attended.

Know someone who graduated from the University of Georgia? Then this one is for you. The UGA Career Center is sponsoring the career fair, which takes place 11 a.m.-3 p.m., June 12 at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Alumni from the classes of 1962 to 2013 are invited to network with employers specifically recruiting UGA graduates. The career fair happens just once a year. Registration is preferred. Register by submitting a resume to "Alumni Resume Book" on DAWGlink, Job Posting #39877. Attendees may do so before May 30. Click here for the full list of participating employers. Turn In Musical Instruments for Manilow Tickets

Pop star Barry Manilow donating a new Yamaha piano to launch musical instrument drive to benefit Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Anyone who donates a new or gently used musical instrument and drops it off at Gwinnett Center will receive two free tickets for the April 27 “Manilow on Broadway” concert at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth. The tickets are valid for pre-selected seat locations. Manilow is donating a new Yamaha piano to launch a musical instrument drive for Gwinnett County Public Schools. “I’m thrilled to be able to help bring the gift of music to these kids,” stated Manilow in a press release issued by Gwinnett Arena. Gwinnett Center is serving as the base for the instrument drive now through April 27. The instrument drop off location is open between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets for an April Barry Manilow concert at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth are now for sale. Ranging from $9.99 to $129, tickets may be purchased at the Gwinnett Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, online at manilow.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the arena. Tickets went on sale Feb. 8. Manilow has produced, arranged, and released more than 40 albums over the course of his career. Gwinnett Arena Ranked a Top Venue Worldwide

The Duluth entertainment venue was ranked 5th domestically and 10th worldwide by Venues Today. Pollster Magazine ranked it 32nd domestically and 66th worldwide.

Venues Today and Pollstar Magazine recently ranked The Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth as a top arena venue worldwide in their 2012 Year-End Reports. The Arena is celebrating its 10th year in 2013. “We had a fantastic year of events from NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships to the Dave Matthews Band,” said Joseph Dennis, general manager at Gwinnett Center, in a press release. “We are privileged to be in such a great community that supports the events that come to The Arena.” Venues Today and Pollstar Magazine are leading entertainment industry publications. Gwinnett Center to Host International Film Festival

Entries for independent films now being accepted for the festival to occur in July 2013.

The Gwinnett Center in Duluth is now accepting submissions for its first International Film Festival, July 27-28, 2013. The festival will celebrate the efforts of local, independent filmmakers, while providing awareness of filmmakers from across the country and internationally, according to a press release announcing the festival. Filmmakers of any age may submit entries. There will be three screening rooms, classes, and panel discussions presented throughout the event. Independent films must be submitted by the filmmaker to www.withoutabox.com. Hotel Negotiations to Start Soon

Gwinnett Commission authorizes GCVB to start discussions with potential developer on a lease recommendation for Marriott Hotel at Gwinnett Center in unincorporated Duluth.

A recent vote by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners clears the way for discussions to begin on constructing a $57-million Marriott Hotel at the Gwinnett Center in unincorporated Duluth. The favorable vote at the commission’s Nov. 6 meeting means that “the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau can proceed to negotiate with Nilhan Hospitality,” according to Lisa Anders, executive director of the GCVB. The proposed hotel would connect with the Gwinnett Center so that hotel guests could walk from the hotel’s lobby into the center. Having a convention center hotel would allow Gwinnett County to be more competitive in attracting conventions. Legendary Tennis Champions Competing in Shootout

Tickets are on sale now for tournament Nov. 10 at Gwinnett Center in Duluth featuring Michael Chang, John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Mats Wilander.

Michael Chang will replace Jimmy Connors in the Champions Shootout during the Nov. 10 PowerShares Series tennis tournament at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Chang will now compete against John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Mats Wilander, according to an announcement Wednesday by InsideOut Sports + Entertainment. Connors was forced to withdraw due to a hip injury. The PowerShares Series will visit 12 cities starting Oct. 13 in Surprise, AZ, and concluding Nov. 30 in Anaheim, CA. The tour, formerly known as the Champions Series, is being produced by Larry Magid. Duluth Hotel Awaits County OK

Nilhan Hospitality's bid to build a $57-million hotel at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth now awaiting approval by Gwinnett's Board of Commissioners.

Gwinnett County is about to get a real economic boost if a developer's proposal to build a multimillion dollar hotel is approved by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners. Nilhan Hospitality, located in Peachtree Corners, was one of four companies that submitted bids for a cenvention center hotel. On Wednesday the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau's Board of Directors selected the firm to build a $57-million Marriott Hotel that will connect to the Gwinnett Center in unincorporated Duluth.
