American Idol Concert Tour Coming to Gwinnett Arena

The tour stops in the Duluth entertainment venue Aug. 4. Tickets go on sale May 3.

American Idol, the popular FOX singing competition, is bringing it's live tour to Duluth, according to a press release from Gwinnett Center. American Idol Live! returns this summer with its hit touring showcase featuring this season's top finalists. And, 19 Entertainment and AEG Live have just announced that the 40-show concert tour will be coming to The Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4. Tickets go on sale 10 a.m. on May 3, and can be boughts at www.gwinnettcenter.com, www.AmericanIdol.com/tour and www.aeglive.com. Atlanta Steam Ready to Rumble in Gwinnett

The women's football team has its home opener Saturday at Gwinnett Arena in Duluth.

Gwinnett, women's pro football officially arrives in the area Saturday April 13). The Atlanta Steam has its home opener in the Gwinnett Arena (game time, 8 p.m.) when it plays the Omaha Heart. Both are first-year teams in the Legends Football League. The league was called the Lingerie Football League until a recent rebranding that included "performance wear" for uniforms. For the Steam, it also will be a chance for redemption. Atlanta lost its season opener 48-0 at Jacksonville in March. According to an article on lfl.com, the Steam players may have felt overwhelmed in the opener. The women's football league team, which debuts at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth in April, has been predicted to go winless in 2013.

The debut of the women's Legends Football League in Gwinnett is less than two months away. Already, the Atlanta Steam is practicing -- and chafing under the prediction of an 0-4 season in 2013. According to an article in lfl360.com, linebacker Adrian Purnell of the Jacksonville Breeze talked some smack on Commissioner’s Corner: “…everyone thinks we are looking forward to the Atlanta game this year because everyone is talking a big game about them. Tickets for an April Barry Manilow concert at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth are now for sale. Ranging from $9.99 to $129, tickets may be purchased at the Gwinnett Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets, online at manilow.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the arena. Tickets went on sale Feb. 8. Manilow has produced, arranged, and released more than 40 albums over the course of his career. Beyonce's 2013 World Tour Includes Duluth

The entertainer, fresh from an exciting Super Bowl halftime performance, will play at Gwinnett Arena in July. Tickets go on sale Feb. 16.

Beyonce fans in Gwinnett, you're in for an encore. The popular entertainer, who "killed it" -- in the words of social media chatter -- in Sunday's Super Bowl 2013 halftime show, plans to bring her new tour to Duluth in July. According to the Gwinnett Arena calendar and Beyonce's website announcement, the "Mrs. Carter Show" world tour will be at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth on July 12. Doors will open at 7 p.m., according to the arena calendar. It will be the only Atlanta-area appearance. Tickets for the Gwinnett show will go on sale Saturday, Feb. 16, according to the arena website. Lingerie Football League Coming to Gwinnett Arena

The league that features women playing in underwear -- and pads and helmets -- plans to play in Gwinnett in 2013.

Jerry Jones, eat your heart out. The Dallas Cowboys' owner announced this week that his Cowboys Stadium would begin selling Victoria's Secret apparel. But soon, the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth could have women playing football in lingerie. No foolin'. The Lingerie Football League, based in Las Vegas, has announced plans to expand to the Gwinnett Arena in 2013. 4 'Established' Developers Interested in Gwinnett Center Hotel Project

Officials have begun going over those interested in developing a facility adjacent to the Gwinnett Center/Arena.

Gwinnett tourism officials have begun sifting through the proposals to build a so-called headquarters hotel as part of the Gwinnett Center/Arena complex. Preston Williams, CEO of the Gwinnett Convention & Visitors Bureau, characterized the interested companies as "established" in a news release, and that indeed appears to be the case. Those tossing their hats into the ring are: According to Internet research, Welty has offices in Ohio and North Carolina. Its projects include the Time Warner Cable facility in Ohio and Goodyear Tire & Rubber headquarters in Ohio. Toss Teddy Bears Onto Ice Saturday

Gwinnett Gladiators fans encouraged to bring new teddy bears and stuffed animals to toss onto the ice after the team score its first goal. The toys are collected and distributed to children's charities.

  Fans of the Gwinnett Gladiators are encouraged to bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal to the Saturday, Jan. 14, game against the Greenville Road Warriors at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:05 p.m. According to tradition, spectators toss the teddy bears and other plush toys onto the ice and interrupt the game after the Gladiators score their first goal. The toys are then collected and distributed to children’s charities in metro Atlanta an North Georgia. Megachurch to Begin Services at Gwinnett Arena

Gwinnett Church eventually plans a permanent home on PIB in Sugar Hill.

A Gwinnett megachurch that plans a permanent home in Sugar Hill starts up regular services this weekend at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Gwinnett Church Pastor Jeff Henderson said in an email to followers this week that services in Duluth will begin Sunday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. Plans also had been disclosed in a webcast in July. "We will have Waumba Land, UpStreet, and Transit for children and students," Henderson said in the latest email. The land for its permanent church site is in Sugar Hill on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard not far from North Gwinnett Middle School.

Welcome Signs for 93rd PGA Championship Put Up

Sixty banners line route for spectators from Gwinnett Arena in Duluth to Atlanta Athletic Club.

Some 60 banners announcing the 93rd PGA Championship will greet drivers traveling into Johns Creek on State Bridge and Medlock Bridge roads. The 5-foot vinyl flags, paid for by the Johns Creek Convention and Vistors Bureau, made their debut Thursday (July 14). The signs are located on State Bridge Road east of Medlock Bridge Road (SR141) to the Chattahoochee River and on Medlock from the river to Bell Road. They are strategically placed along the route that PGA spectators will be traveling on shuttle buses from the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth to the Atlanta Athletic Club, the site of the championship Aug. 8-14.
