Duluth Receives Second Golden Shoe Award
PEDS honors the city for McClure Bridge Road/Irvindale Road project improving pedestrian safety and walkability.
For the second year straight, Duluth was named the recipient of a Golden Shoe Award by PEDS (Pedestrians Educating Drivers on Safety, Inc.), a leading advocate for pedestrian safety. Duluth City Manager Tim Shearer accepted the award on behalf of the city at the 13th annual Golden Shoe Awards ceremony in November that celebrated people, projects and places that contributed significantly in 2012 to making metro Atlanta communities more walkable. Duluth received the Pedestrian-Friendly Suburban Retrofit Award for the McClure Bridge Road/Irvindale Road improvement project. The award was displayed at the Dec. 10 Duluth City Council meeting. Those of us who live along this route have had their homes and quality of life impacted in a very negative way as a result of this project. Personally, instead of looking out at a beautiful stand of trees, I now see an office complex and have lost all privacy in my backyard. I'm saddened that any organization would award this type of behavior. more ›
