UGA vs. Nebraska: It's a New Year Day's Bowl, Baby!

Will the Bulldogs start 2013 with a win over Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl?

The Georgia Bulldogs arrived in Orlando on Wednesday to begin prepping in earnest for their New Year's Day Capital One Bowl matchup against the Big Ten's Nebraska. Coming off a heartbreaking SEC championship loss in which a few yards made the difference between playing for the national title and being passed over for a BCS berth, the Dawgs are looking to close out the 2012 season on a triumphant note. Some analysts think that's likely. "With the way that the Bulldogs left Atlanta, they are looking for redemption and there is not much that the Cornhuskers can do to stop it from being achieved," Ian Berg writes for Bleacher Report. Nebraska was shucked by the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten title game, 70-31, leading Berg to write them off …

Georgia vs. Mississippi Football: It's Homecoming!

The triumphant Bulldogs return to Athens, back in the driver's seat in the SEC Eastern Division.

The Bulldogs did what they needed against Florida last week in what henceforth shall be known as the Hot Potato Bowl, but it wasn't pretty. The game produced more ugly turnovers than a remedial pastry class. Credit Georgia's resurgent defense for Florida's sloppiness. After a public chewing out by safety Shawn Williams leading up to the game, the Bulldogs were relentless. Junior linebacker Jarvis Jones' performance alone was enough to help earn him semifinalist status for two national awards, the Maxwell and the Bednarik. The next step for Georgia's emotional squad, heading into Saturday's Homecoming game against Mississippi, is to provoke fewer yellow hankies from the officials, Mark Weiszer reports for the Morris News Service. The Dawgs …

Georgia Football: Now What?

Is the season over for the Georgia Bulldogs? Or will a little adversity push them to great heights?

The Georgia Bulldogs have some time to lick their wounds after last week's loss to South Carolina, a game that was billed as a barn burner and turned out to be a tar-and-feathering. The Dawgs have a bye week this Saturday (Oct. 13) to reflect on what could have been, and look ahead to visiting a hapless Kentucky on Oct. 20. The now-No. 14 Bulldogs seem to be taking their humiliation in stride. "We've still got life. It's a long season. We've got more games to play," Malcolm Mitchell, a sophomore receiver, is quoted saying by the Macon Telegraph's Seth Emerson. "If we dwell on this game, we'll lose the next one, then lose the next one. We've gotta stay focused and keep pushing." Emerson reports that head coach Mark Richt is holding steady …

THE SEC ON TV: Dooley, Tennessee Test Georgia Again

Looking at Saturday's football action around the SEC.

The "Derek Dooley returns to Athens" story line is an old one, as Georgia ruined the storybook angle with a victory over Tennessee in Athens in 2010. However, Dooley -- son of legendary UGA coach Vince Dooley -- brings an improved Vols team to Athens on Saturday. (Game time: 3:30 p.m., CBS.) Tennessee (3-1, 0-1) opened its 2012 season with a 35-21 victory over N.C. State in the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta. And the Vols also led SEC East rival Florida in the second half before the Gators pulled away, 37-20, on big plays and turnovers. Georgia is cruising at No. 5 nationally (AP), with a 4-0 record, 2-0 SEC. The Bulldogs have a quality QB in junior Aaron Murray, but also noteworthy is that UGA has allowed just 23 points in its SEC victories …

Scanning the SEC: Auburn-LSU Rivalry Resumes

Looking ahead to Saturday's football action around the conference.

The SEC can claim the last six BCS national champions, and the SEC West is responsible for four of those. Two of those title schools will meet Saturday in Auburn -- the host Tigers, and visiting LSU. And when the Bayou Bengals won their title in 2007, the game with Auburn that season was seen as perhaps the catalyst for the title. How do you see this week's SEC games turning out? What are your impressions of the league in 2012? Tell us in the comments below. Many remember the dramatic third-down play late in the game, when LSU QB Matt Flynn threw into the end zone for a score that lifted LSU to a crucial win. Play it safe? Nah. (The play is included in the attached video, and appears at about the eight-minute mark.) This season, LSU is 3-0…

Georgia vs. Missouri Football Preview: Dawgs Enter Unfamiliar Territory

Here's what they're saying about the Bulldogs and Tigers in Missouri's SEC debut.

How do we know Georgia Bulldogs football is special? Because Delta Air Lines is changing its flight schedule just to make sure UGA fans get to Columbia, Missouri, in time for the Tigers' inaugural SEC game. It will be a learning process. Seth Emerson of the Macon Telegraph reports the two teams are virtual strangers. Neither squad even has a scholarship player from the other's state. Georgia head coach Mark Richt did interview for the Missouri job more than a decade ago, but the teams' only previous matchup was in 1960. At least one Missouri player isn't that impressed with what he's seen of Georgia so far. Defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson told a reporter he watched some of the Georgia-Buffalo game last week, then turned it off. "It's …

Share Your Memories of Larry Munson

The legendary voice of Georgia football died Sunday night at his home in Athens at the age of 89.

Larry Munson, whose legendary calls of University of Georgia football success echoed in the ears of the Bulldog Nation for four decades, died Sunday night in Athens. Munson, 89, died at his home with complications from pneumonia, his son Michael told the University of Georgia athletics website. Funeral arrangements for Munson had not been determined as of Sunday night. The beloved broadcaster was the “Voice of the Bulldogs” from 1966 to 2008, during which his passion for the Red-and-Black created some of the more memorable radio calls in college football history. Some of the most memorable: “Run Lindsay … Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott, Lindsay Scott” (1980 vs. Florida); “Again you guys, hunker down!” and  “Look at the sugar falling out of …

There was nothing like UGA football on Saturdays. We didn't even bother with TV, we just cranked up all the radios. We HAD to hear Munson! Great times! "Look at the sugar falling from the sky"!   more ›

Bulldogs Roundup: What They're Saying About UGA Football vs. Auburn

Georgia hosts the Tigers Saturday in another major matchup.

Who would have thought, after the Georgia Bulldogs' 0-2 start, that they'd head into Saturday's game ranked higher than Auburn and on track to play for the SEC championship for the first time since 2005? Can the Bulldogs win eight in a row? Will they avenge last year's loss to the Tigers? Here's what they're saying: What's your prediction for the game? Tell us in the comments.

UGA Roundup: What They're Saying About Georgia-New Mexico St.

The triumphant Dawgs host the Western Athletic Conference foe on Saturday.

Georgia's nationally ranked football squad gets a break from heated SEC competition Saturday in hosting the 3-5 New Mexico State Aggies. But the team will kick off its Homecoming contest short four running backs, after coach Mark Richt announced this week that three violated team policies and one remains injured. Aside from that development, the commentariat is a little quiet this week, but here are some things to think about:
