Will Beau See His Shadow on Groundhog Day?

Gen. Beauregard Lee will emerge from his home early Saturday and predict whether there will be six more weeks of winter.

Georgia's own Gen. Beauregard Lee is set to make his annual weather prediction at the Yellow River Game Ranch on Saturday, Feb. 2. It's been a wacky weather week in Georgia -- 70-degree temperatures, tornadoes, and lots of rain, and in the past two weeks frigid temperatures and icy roads have been a problem. So, getting the furry forecaster's prognostication comes just in time. "I think people enjoy having some news that's actually fun," said Codi Reeves, owner of the Yellow River Game Ranch. "It's a welcome break from crime, politics, and bad weather." If Beau sees his shadow Saturday, or so the folklore goes, it means six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, it means an early spring. Beau's Poised to Predict Weather

Groundhog Gen. Beauregard Lee is getting ready to receive hundreds of visitors on Thursday -- and to predict whether we'll have an early spring.

With only a day remaining before his big moment, Patch caught up with groundhog Gen. Beauregard Lee, Georgia's official weather prognosticator, at Yellow River Game Ranch in Lilburn. Organizers are busy getting his white-columned mansion, Weathering Heights, spruced up for the big day, when hundreds of visitors will turn up to see whether Beau predicts an early spring or six more weeks of winter. The general himself was pretty relaxed and didn't seem too bothered about the big day. After all, he's been doing this for years, and the National Weather Service has given him two commendations for his accurate predictions.
