Dragoncon founder Edward Kramer, 50, was in the Gwinnett County jail as of 4 p.m., Jan. 19, following charges of aggravated child molestation. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Kramer was first arrested in Gwinnett County on Aug. 25, 2000, and accused of sexually abusing three teen boys during a sleepover at his house. However, he was thought to be physically incapable of standing trial because of severe spinal and respiratory problems. He was then put on house arrest, but, according to Atlanta Magazine, "the court granted eleven separate bond modifications, each one giving Kramer more freedom to come and go as he pleased." The co-founder and part owner of the popular DragonCon science fiction convention in Atlanta is facing extradition to Gwinnett on molestation charges dating to 2000, according to media reports. Edward Kramer, 51, was arrested in Milford, Conn., on Wednesday (Dec. 5) while staying in a motel room with a 14-year-old boy, according to 11alive.com. Police there acted on a tip from Gwinnett District Attorney Danny Porter. A Gwinnett Superior Court judge Wednesday signed an order revoking his bond from the 2000 case; extradition could take several weeks. Suspect has been barred from unsupervised visits with minors -- but was allegedly alone with teenage boy, police said.
A suspected child molester -- who is reportedly well-known in the sci-fi world as a founder of DragonCon -- was busted at a Milford, CT, hotel Tuesday after investigators got a tip that he was hanging out alone with a teen in a Connecticut hotel, allegedly in violation of a court order in Georgia, police said. Investigators checked with the Gwinnett County District Attorney's office in Georgia and learned that the suspect, identified as Edward Kramer, 50, of Brooklyn, is currently involved in criminal proceedings where he's been charged with aggravated child molestation, according to police.
