Dang Girls Night Out! Saturday at Red Clay Theatre

Full weekend of music with Matthew Perryman Jones, Dang Girls Night Out!, and Gwinnett School of Rock Spring Concert.

Matthew Perryman Jones with special guest Elenowen will open the concert weekend at the Red Clay Theatre Friday evening. Jones’ new album “Land of the Living,” written after the death of his father, is set to be released May 29. This is his first full length album since 2008. Dang Girls Night Out, a concert benefiting Serv International, will feature Jan Smith, Mandy Grawley, and others Saturday night. The Gwinnett School of Rock will present its Spring Concert Sunday afternoon. The theatre welcomes singer-songwriters for Open Mic Night Monday. Duluth's Got Talent at RCT Sunday

Proceeds from competition at Red Clay Theatre will be used by the Duluth Cluster Schools Foundation to fund much needed projects in Duluth schools.

Student and faculty musical talent at Duluth Middle and High schools will be showcased at Duluth’s Got Talent Sunday, April 21, at Red Clay Theatre in Duluth. Proceeds from the competition will be used by the Duluth Cluster Schools Foundation to fund much needed projects in Duluth schools. The competition begins at 2 p.m. Each band or artist will have 10 minutes to perform, and a panel of local music industry judges will choose three winners. There are 20 bands and musicians scheduled to compete. The grand prize is a recording session at Treesound Studios, second place prize a $200 gift card to a local music store and third place a $100 cash prize. To order tickets, click here. The Shadowboxers On Stage Saturday at Red Clay

Live concerts continue at popular downtown Duluth music venue.

Singer-songwriter Mary Gauthier leads off this week’s performances at the Red Clay Theatre early by appearing in concert Wednesday, April 3. Gauthier, who has six albums of original songs to her credit is releasing a seventh album, “Live at Blue Rock,” this month. Many of her songs have been recorded by other artists, including Jimmy Buffett and Blake Shelton. Delta Moon will combine the sounds of Mississippi blues and Appalachian twang Thursday, April 4, at RCT. Nora Jane Struthers & The Party Line will appear with Joy Kills Sorrow Friday, April 5. Retail Scene in Duluth Changing Downtown, Along PIB

Duluth Economic Development Manager Chris McGahee updates Downtown Development Authority on new activity.

  Things are a’ changing on the retail scene in Duluth both on Main Street downtown and on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Chris McGahee, the city’s economic development manager, updated the Downtown Development Authority on impending changes at its Jan. 17 meeting. These changes are to be expected with other businesses such as Pure Taqueria and Eddie Owen Presents at the Red Clay Theatre creating excitement and interest in the city. Some of the existing businesses, DDA Vice President Rob Ponder said, had been “placeholders” keeping storefronts from becoming vacant until the economy improved. Excitement Mounts for Opening Concert

'Eddie Owen Presents' debuts with Dec. 2,3 concerts by Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers at Red Clay Theatre in Duluth.

  Excitement is mounting in Duluth as tonight’s opening of “Eddie Owen Presents” at the Red Clay Theatre nears. Owen is presenting Patterson Hood of Drive-By Truckers in the first two concerts Dec. 2 and 3. Doors open at 7 p.m. with concerts at 8 p.m. According to the website, tickets priced at $20 were still available Friday morning. Hood, who still performs with Drive-By Truckers, will be appearing solo on stage at the 250-seat Red Clay Theatre in downtown Duluth. Owen, the founder of the legendary Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, signed a lease agreement in October with the city of Duluth to present live music acts at Red Clay.
