Gwinnett Braves Come Home Tied for First

Another shutout as Durham falls.

The Gwinnett Braves got a second straight shutout from their pitching staff Friday and earned a 5-0 victory over Durham in Durham, N.C. The win means the G-Braves now are tied with Durham for first place in the International League South. Yohan Flande went 6 2/3 innings and allowed three hits to earn the win. Jeff Fiorentino homered and Stefan Gartrell was 2-for-4 for the G-Braves. The G-Braves begin a four-game series against Indianapolis on Saturday (7:05 p.m.) at Coolray Field. The first 2,000 children 12-under who attend will receive a Gwinnett Braves backpack.

Gwinnett Braves Shut Out

Team falls two games from first place.

The Gwinnett Braves ran into a hot pitcher in Durham's Matt Moore, who struck out 13 Wednesday in a 4-0 victory in Durham, N.C. The loss drops the G-Braves to two games behind the Bulls in the International League South. Mike Minor was the losing pitcher for Gwinnett, allowing 2 earned runs and five hits in seven innings. Tyler Pastornicky had two of Gwinnett's four hits. The teams play again Thursday in Durham.

UPDATE: Prado To Play for Gwinnett Braves

Versatile player to begin rehab assignment Wednesday.

Updated 1:30 p.m., July 6, 2011. Another big-name player from the Atlanta Braves is going to get some playing time in Gwinnett. Infielder-outfielder Martin Prado was optioned to the G-Braves on Wednesday on an injury-rehab assignment and will be in uniform for Wednesday night's game in Charlotte. Prado has hit .277 in 64 games for Atlanta this season. He was diagnosed with a staph infection on June 9. Julio Teheran (9-1, 1.79 ERA) will start on the mound for Gwinnett on Wednesday in Charlotte The thunderstorm that struck the Gwinnett County area Tuesday night played havoc with the Gwinnett Braves' game at Coolray Field. Gwinnett Braves Win Before Large Crowd

Coolray crowd of 10,000-plus sees G-Braves move into first.

The Gwinnett Braves earned the first Independence Day win in their history Monday, and did so before a season-high crowd. The G-Braves, who moved to the area in 2009 from Richmond, Va., defeated Durham 11-3 at Coolray Field before a crowd of 10,226. Shorstop Brandon Hicks' grand slam in the eighth inning was the clinching blow. The G-Braves now are a game ahead of Durham in the International League South. DH Chris Carter was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and a homer for Gwinnett. The teams play again Tuesday (7:05 p.m.) at Coolray Field. The game will be televised on CSS.

Gwinnett Braves Head Home in First-Place Tie

The Durham Bulls roughed up Gwinnett Braves starter Erik Cordier in a 7-4 victory Sunday in Durham, N.C. The teams now head for Coolray Field in a first-place tie in the International League South. Cordier (2-5) allowed six runs in less than three innings. For the G-Braves, Mauro Gomez was 2-for-4 with a home run, and Brandon Hicks was also 2-for-4 with an HR. The G-Braves host Durham on Monday at 7:05 p.m. A fireworks show will follow the game.

Gwinnett Braves Back in First

The Gwinnett Braves regained the lead in the International League South on Saturday by scoring four runs in the first inning en route to a 4-1 victory at Durham, N.C. Pitcher Yohan Flande allowed five hits in six innings to earn the win for Gwinnett. Brandon Hicks was 1-for-4 with an RBI for the G-Braves. The teams play Game 2 of the four-game, home-and-home series Sunday (6:35 p.m.) in Durham. The teams then move to Coolray Field in Lawrenceville for a July 4 game.

Gwinnett Braves Fall Into Second Place

The Gwinnett Braves dropped into second place in their division with their second straight loss Saturday at Coolray Field. The Durham Bulls scored five runs in the fourth inning and went on to win, 8-1. Gwinnett (36-32) now is a full game behind first-place Durham in the International League South. G-Braves starting pitcher Erik Cordier allowed four earned runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. The G-Braves were limited to three hits on the night: one each by Matt Young, Stefan Gartrell and Ed Lucas. The teams play again Sunday afternoon (2:05 p.m.) at Coolray Field. Latino Fan Fest also will be taking place; gates open at 12:30 p.m.

G-Braves Launch Multi-Cultural Series

The Gwinnett Braves launches a multicultural game series Saturday (June 18) with three signature events at Coolray Field. The G-Braves have created strategic alliances with key community leaders and organizations to present the events as part of their outreach efforts, according to an announcement by the G-Braves. The release of the 2010 Census confirmed Gwinnett County, the home of the G-Braves, as the most diverse county in Georgia, the announcement stated. Black Americans now represent the largest minority in Gwinnett with 22.8%. The second largest group is Hispanic or Latinos of any race at 20.1%, and Asians come in third at 10.5%. Gwinnett Braves Lose, Tied for First

The Durham Bulls roughed up Gwinnett Braves starter Johan Flande on Friday at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville for an 8-5 victory. The teams now are back in a first-place tie in the South Division of the International League. Flande gave up nine hits and six runs, all earned, in 4 1/3 innings. Julio Lugo had a three-run double for the G-Braves. Left fielder Nate McLouth, on a rehab stint from Atlanta, was 1-for-3.  The teams play again Saturday (7:05 p.m.) at Coolray Field. The G-Braves also will be hosting a Juneteenth celebration as part of their Heritage Nights this summer. Former Brave Otis Nixon and some former Negro League players will take part in the Juneteenth event.

'Big Braves' Help Gwinnett Braves Into First Place

A couple of players on rehab assignments from Atlanta helped the Gwinnett Braves reach first place in their division Thursday. Left fielder Nate McClouth was 2-for-3 and pitcher Brandon Beachy allowed four hits in five innings as Gwinnett defeated the Durham Bulls, 10-2, at Coolray Field. Gwinnett now has a one-game lead in the South division of the International League. Stefan Gartrell was 3-for-5 with five RBI for Gwinnett. The teams play again Friday (7:05 p.m.) at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville. The regular Friday fireworks display will take place after the game.
