Damaging Wind, Tornadoes Possible Wednesday

The National Weather Service says the rough weather is possible Wednesday morning into the afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Wednesday for the possibility of severe weather in north Georgia, including Duluth and Gwinnett County. Severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes are possible, says the weather service, along with damaging winds and rainfall in excess of one inch. The timing puts the active weather in this part of the state beween 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. Freezing Precipitation Possible Thursday Night, Friday

The freezing rain could begin overnight Thursday in Duluth and Gwinnett, forecasts say.

The threat of wintry weather for Duluth and Gwinnett is looming again. According to the National Weather Service, there is a "slight chance" of freezing rain overnight Thursday (Jan. 24) after 3 a.m. and "a chance" for freezing rain Friday (Jan. 25) before noon, then rain or freezing rain "likely" between noon and 1 p.m., and rain after 1 p.m. Also, winds could reach 15 mph and gust to 20 mph. The low Thursday night is forecast to be about 29 degrees. Friday's low is expected to be 32 with a high of 37. An Arctic air mass and moisture moving into the area is blamed. One More Day of Rain, Then Maybe Snow

The week-long rainy weather is expected to end Thursday night, but could turn to snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Duluth, there is good news and bad news to report on the weather. The National Weather Service is reporting that the rain that's been around all week is about to end tonight, but due to dropping temperatures, we could get a bit of snow this evening. The forecast Thursday calls for 100 percent chance of rain. There could be as much as an inch of rain today. Temperatures expected to reach 51. West wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Rain Brings Threat of Flooding to Area

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the metro Atlanta area including Duluth.

A stalled front across central Georgia is expected to bring widespread rain to the metro area, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy, steady rain could cause flooding to areas with small streams, rivers and low lying areas to north Georgia. The NWS has issued a flood watch through tonight (Tuesday, Jan. 15). The rain is expected to diminish on Wednesday, but is expected to increase again on Thursday, which could cause additional flooding in the area. By Thursday night the rain is expected to end. Friday is predicted to be sunny with a high near 53 degrees. Evening temperatures are predicted to dip to 32 degrees.

Temperature to Drop Below 40 in Duluth

The National Weather Service predicting temperatures in mid- to high 30 degrees Monday morning.

Bundle up students before sending them to the bus stop Monday -- old man winter is stirring. Weather.com reports that the National Weather Service is predicting that in Duluth temperatures will drop below 40 degrees by 6 a.m. Although it is predicted to be sunny, the temperature is still not expected to break 56 for a high all day. The temperature may drop to 32 degrees, the freezing point, overnight Monday. It looks like we've finally put summer behind us.

Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Forecast for Duluth

National Weather Service places Gwinnett under Hazardous Weather Outlook and Flood Watch.

  Well, let's hope you had your outdoor Labor Day Weekend fun on Saturday, because Sunday and Monday are looking rugged with thunderstorms and rain forecast starting Sunday afternoon and continuing through Monday night and Tuesday. Plan to turn on the stove instead of firing up the grill.
