Duluth HS Chamber Orchestra Wows 'Em in NY

The 32-member orchestra won first place in the National Band and Orchestra Festival and performed at Lincoln Center.

The 32-member Duluth High School Chamber Orchestra impressed judges with their music and won first place in the National Band and Orchestra Festival at Lincoln Center in New York. The competition involved college and high school ensembles from across the United States and Canada April 21, according to a news release issued by Gwinnett County Public Schools. Judges unanimously selected the Duluth HS Chamber Orchestra to be the featured ensemble during the evening concert in Avery Fisher Hall, the home of the New York Philharmonic. Duluth High music teachers Shawn Morton and Dr. Peter Lemonds direct the DHS Chamber Orchestra. DHS Chamber Orchestra Performing at RCT

Concert proceeds to help send student musicians to perform at Lincoln Center in NYC.

The Duluth High School Chamber Orchestra will present a program of classical and holiday music in a concert at the Red Clay Theatre at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14. Proceeds from this show will be used to send the student musicians to perform at Lincoln Center in NYC. Eddie Owen Presents is hosting the benefit concert at the RCT. Atlanta-based pop artist Norwood will perform with the orchestra. This concert is the second in “Norwood’s Noteworthy Noise” fund-raising series to create awareness and raise funds to help keep music alive in local schools. Tickets are $10 in advance or $13 at the door and can be purchased in the Orchestra Room at Duluth High School by calling Jayne Madigan at 678-283-7178 or online at www.eddieowenpresents.com.
