Duluth Civitan Club Shares Proceeds From Event

Four charity beneficiaries each received $1,185 from ticket sales to the January State of the City Address sponsored by the city and the club.

Duluth Civitan Club President Terry Crouch presented proceeds from the State of the City Address to the four charity beneficiaries at its April 9 breakfast meeting at J. Christopher’s. The club and the city sponsored the January address by Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris at Gwinnett Center. Rainbow Village, Driving Magic, Annandale Village and Creative Enterprises each received $1,185 representing ticket sale proceeds.

Duluth Civitans Help Out at Driving Magic Farm

Members of Duluth Civitan Club joined by Peachtree Corners Junior Civitans for spring cleaning workday at Driving Magic Farm.

Duluth Civitan Club members gathered at Driving Magic Farm in Hoschton Saturday, March 9, for a spring cleaning outing. About 18 Duluth Civitans and Peachtree Corners Junior Civitans participated in the volunteer workday, Duluth Civitan President Terry Crouch reported. They cleaned and painted carriages and equipment. Driving Magic, a therapeutic carriage driving and horsemanship program for adults and children, is one of several charities supported by Duluth Civitans.

With family and friends of Civitans, we actually had about 30 people who prepared teaching aids, cleaned up the trails from winter damage, restored accessible carriages, cleaned and organized our teaching aid barn and made everything look so beautiful for our students to arrive for their first day of lessons on Sunday. Duluth Aspires to be a 'Cool City'

Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris' State of the City Address focuses on attracting young professionals and others to the city. Local businesses also spotlighted.

Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris focused on efforts by the city to attract young professionals and others to live and visit the city during her 2013 State of the City Address Tuesday (Jan. 22). An estimated 250 business and civic leaders gathered at the Gwinnett Center to hear her informative talk. Duluth already offers many amenities that appeal to young professionals, Harris said, and will be adding more as the city proceeds with plans to redevelop historic Downtown Duluth into a dining and entertainment district. Plans also include providing affordable high-density places to live downtown, she said. Of particular interest, the mayor said, are “millennials,” individuals born between 1982 and 2002. I would love to see Duluth become a cool city and there are lots of great things going on in the town square, but for us, the schools were a problem and the area around Gwinnett place is a problem. We sold our home in our Title 1 district at a loss and moved to South Forsyth last year. State of City Address to Focus on 'Local Duluth'

Mayor Nancy Harris, accompanied by Shiner, mayor of Duluth’s Chattapoochee Dog Park, have been taking an inventory of what Duluth has to offer its citizens by visiting local businesses, schools, parks, and civic organizations.

Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris has chosen “Local Duluth” as the theme for her upcoming State of the City Address. In preparation for the address, Mayor Harris, accompanied by Shiner, mayor of Duluth’s Chattapoochee Dog Park, have been taking an inventory of what Duluth has to offer its citizens by visiting local businesses, schools, parks, and civic organizations within the city limits. The two mayors have made more than 40 visits, according to Mayor Harris. Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris will deliver a comprehensive update on the city and share her vision of its future Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the Gwinnett Center. The 2012 State of the City Address is presented jointly by the Duluth Civitan Club and the city. An expo showcasing local businesses begins at 11 a.m. A luncheon and the mayor’s speech follows at noon. Individual tickets are available for $25 and tables for eight for $175. Sponsorship opportunities range from $100 to $1,000. The business expo fee is $150. Make reservations by Jan. 20. This is a fantastic event, and is the largest annual fundraiser for the Duluth Civitan Club. We support 5 local charities: Camp Big Heart, Rainbow Village, Annandale Village, Driving Magic and Creative Enterprises. Proceeds go to these five groups. Congressman Woodall Speaking in Duluth July 5

Only 30 seats remain for lunchtime speech hosted by Duluth Civitan Club at Duluth Festival Center.

The Duluth Civitan Club will host U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall (R-GA) for a lunchtime speech Tuesday, July 5, at the Duluth Festival Center, 3142 Hill St. Congressman Woodall will speak on the proposed Fair Tax and other issues.  The public is invited to attend, but there are only 30 remaining seats available. Lunch will be catered for $8 a person by Duluth's Family Restaurant. The event will take place from 11:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. Anyone who would like to attend, call Terry Crouch at 678-481-8474.
