DDI Construction Requiring Traffic Adjustments

Intermittent lane closures, traffic shifts to occur March 1-22 at I-85 and Pleasant Hill Road.

Gwinnett County is continuing to convert the existing Pleasant Hill Road bridge over I-85 into a Diverging Diamond Interchange, or DDI. The construction is requiring traffic adjustments. Intermittent lane closures and up to three lanes of traffic shifts will take place on I-85 at Pleasant Hill Road from March 1 to approximately March 22, weather permitting. Pleasant Hill Road from Breckinridge Boulevard/Shackleford Road to Venture Parkway will continue to require intermittent lane closures and traffic shifts through September 2013. Lane closures on I-85 will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday and 8 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. Gwinnett Place CID Awarded Grant for DDI

$1 million grant for infrastructure improvements will help fund construction of Diverging Diamond Interchange at Interstate 85 and Pleasant Hill Road.

The Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (GPCID) is getting a $1-million grant to be used toward construction of the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at Interstate 85 and Pleasant Hill Road. Gov. Nathan Deal announced approval of the grant request Thursday (June 21) at the State Capitol, according to a press release issued by the GPCID. The funds are being made available through the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB). The GTIB program is a revolving infrastructure investment fund established in 2008 by Georgia legislators and administered by the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA). “The GTIB program is a way for communities who are serious about investing in their infrastructure to apply for the help they …

I would have thought a large 1-way loop between Satellite Blvd and Shackleford Road using Steve Reynolds and Pleasant Hill Road would have been a more efficient design. You would have 6 lanes of traffic in the same direction on both Steve Reynolds and Pleasant Hill. There would be no red lights slowing traffic down, and traffic entering and exiting the loop would be able to flow freely. It would …   more ›

DDI Construction Contract Awarded

Diverging Diamond Interchange at Interstate 85 and Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth designed to alleviate traffic congestion, improve traffic flow.

Work on the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at Interstate 85 and Pleasant Hill Road in unincorporated Duluth is scheduled to begin this summer following approval Tuesday (June 19) by the Gwinnett County Commission of the contract for its construction. Completion is anticipated in May 2013. The Diverging Diamond Interchange design allows drivers to cross over to the "opposite" side of the road on the interstate bridge to make turns onto I-85. The project also includes a new walkway in the median for pedestrians to use. The DDI is a collaborative project by the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (GPCID), Gwinnett Department of Transportation and Georgia Department of Transportation. I-85/Pleasant Hill DDI Concept OK'd

Gwinnett Place CID granted $450,000 for Satellite Blvd. streetscaping, pedestrian enhancements.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) officially approved a concept report for the proposed conversion of the Pleasant Hill Road bridge over I-85 to an innovative diverging-diamond interchange (DDI).  Approval of the concept plan is required to advance the project further with the Federal Highway Administration. Additional permitting and plan approvals will be sought this fall as right-of-acquisition continues in preparation for construction to begin in early 2012, according to a June 2 announcement by the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District, which has proposed the DDI to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the I-85 crossing.  Leo Wiener, chairman the Gwinnett CID, said the GDOT approval is welcome news …
