Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash asked every resident and business owner in Gwinnett “to be informed, to get involved, and to stay in touch” with county government this year in her State of the County Address Wednesday (Jan. 16) at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth. Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash, District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks and District 3 Commissioner-elect Tommy Hunter, will be sworn in Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Gwinnett County Justice and Administration Center. Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash formally presented her proposed fiscal year 2013 budget to the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday. The proposed budget totals $1.3 billion, which is 8.5 percent lower than this year’s $1.43 billion. Six county residents and business people helped craft the proposed budget by serving on the chairman’s budget review committee. After hearing presentations from elected officials and department directors, the group studied departmental business plans and revenue projections to make recommendations for the budget. Updated June 3 Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash said a special election will be held to fill the unexpired term of departed Commissioner Shirley Lasseter, according to a media report. WSB-TV made the report in an interview with Nash that was taped Friday. According to the report, Nash does not know when the election will be held, but that it likely will not be before the July 31 primary. The term expires Dec. 31. Also, the District 1 seat held by Lasseter will be vacant for Tuesday's possible vote on Briscoe Field privatization. Gwinnett County began its budget process for the coming fiscal year Tuesday by hearing a request from the tax commissioner's office, the chief bill collector for the government and Gwinnett schools.
