Three Duluth High School seniors were announced as the winners of 2012 Duluth Fine Arts League scholarships at the conclusion of auditions Sunday (April 15) at the New Dawn Theater. Pianist Andy Dang won the $1,500 music scholarship. Singer Benjamin Calderson, who was the runner-up for the music scholarship, earned a $1,000 scholarship. Amanda Edwards was the winner of the $1,500 fine arts scholarship. Winners were chosen by a panel of distinguished judges. The scholarships awarded this year represent an increase over two $1,000 scholarships presented by DFAL for each of the past two years totaling $4,000. Mary Buck served as chair of the DFAL scholarship program with Lucille Walker as co-chair. Six students competed in the auditions. …

Six students will be performing or showing their art at auditions Sunday, April 15, for three scholarships to be awarded by the Duluth Fine Arts League. DFAL is providing three art scholarships -- two for $1,500 each and one for $1,000 -- to seniors who attend Duluth High School or who are homeschooled in Duluth. Recipients must live in Duluth. This is an increase from two $1,000 scholarships presented for each of the past two years totaling $4,000. There are four seniors competing in music and two in visual arts, Mary Buck, chair of the DFAL scholarship program, reported. Duluth Art Gallery transformed into tropical paradise for Arts at Twilight scholarship fundraiser.
The Duluth Art Gallery was transformed into a tropical paradise for the Duluth Fine Arts League’s third annual Arts at Twilight Saturday (July 16) night. The gallery was decorated with white lights, palm trees, tropical flowers, fishnets, and sea shells. It was filled with art that guests, many attired in flowery shirts and sundresses, admired during the “Evening in the Tropics.” The tropical island-like scene featured a tiki hut serving glasses of fruity Sangria, red and white wine along with a buffet of tropically inspired foods catered by Proof of the Pudding. The array included salad boats garnished with grilled shrimp, miniature spring rolls, coconut chicken lollipops, teriyaki chicken wings, skewered beef planks, and hot dog buns …
