Starbucks to Start Selling Alcohol in Some Atlanta Area Stores

Beer and wine will be sold at certain locations by the end of the year. Take our poll and let us know what you think about the idea.

You soon may be able to get a different kind of brew at your neighborhood Starbucks. The coffee company announced this week they will begin selling beer and wine at stores in Atlanta, Chicago, Southern California and the Pacific Northwest by the end of 2012. Starbucks has not yet identified the locations yet, however there will be four to six shops serving alcohol in the Atlanta area later this year. They will also serve premium food such as savory snacks, small plates and hot flatbreads. “As our customers transition from work to home, many are looking for a warm and inviting place to unwind and connect with the people they care about,” said Clarice Turner, Starbucks' senior vice president, U.S. Operations in a release. “At select stores …

I can't really imagine buying alcohol at a Starbucks, but if they had Bailey's, I may have a Bailey's and coffee once in a blue moon! I think it's a good way for them to make more money, and that's their goal as a business.   more ›

Gang Sweep in Gwinnett Lands 49 Behind Bars

GCPD and ATF teamed up for eight-month crackdown on 'Gangster Disciples.'

  An eight-month long investigation has lead to the arrests of 49 gang members in Gwinnett County. Since February 2011 Gwinnett County Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted a joint investigation of sects of the "Gangster Disciples." The street gang primarily operated out of the Bradford Gwinnett Apartments at 100 Castor Drive in Norcross. Detectives said the apartment complex was an ideal setup for the gang. Police say the gang members were able to keep lookouts and see whenever police came in and out of the complex. Resulgs of the gang sweep were announced in a press conference Dec. 19.
