A memorial service is planned for Paula Nelson Shearer, 44, of Duluth on Wednesday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at Life Church International. Mrs. Shearer, the wife of Duluth City Manager Tim Shearer, passed away April 20 after a lengthy fight against cancer. She is survived by her husband and three children, Jordan Shearer, Nathan Shearer and Daniel Shearer, all of Duluth; parents, Dennis and Kay Nelson of Duluth; sister and brother-in-law, Krista and Derek Metro of Flowery Branch; and brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Eli Nelson of Copperopolis, CA. Life Church International is located at 4830 River Green Parkway, Suite 200, in Duluth. Minister Derek Metro will officiate at Mrs. Shearer’s service. Funeral arrangements were handled by Flanigan…

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 1, at Duluth First United Methodist Church for Sharon Abner, who served as the church’s Facilities Coordinator. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. She passed away Feb. 25 from complications after a recent fall at her home. Mrs. Abner began working at Duluth First United Methodist Church as a teacher and assistant director of the Christian Beginnings Pre-school 30 years ago. She then took on the job of church custodian, eventually becoming Facilities Coordinator. A maintenance fund established this past year to cover major items that needed repair or replacement not included in the normal church operating budget will now be known as the Sharon Abner Maintenance Fund…

Michael Scott Hudgens, 64, of Duluth, a philanthropist and son of the late Gwinnett developer Scott Hudgens Jr., passed away Feb. 6. The family will receive friends Friday, Feb. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel Funeral Home, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Blvd., Norcross/Peachtree Corners. Mr. Hudgens attended the University of Georgia and was a retired U.S. Army Veteran. He enjoyed his family, being with friends and working on the family farm, where he spent most of his time. Todd Sr., co-founder, co-chairman and co-executive director of Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, will be remembered at a reception at Peachtree Christian Church in Atlanta from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. Todd passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 22. A funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church located at 1580 Peachtree St. NW. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive SW, in Atlanta. Todd was born in Sandersville, GA. After a months-long battle, Hannah Rinehart died Wednesday morning at 4:15.
Hannah Rinehart, wife of South Gwinnett math teacher Mark Rinehart, passed away Wednesday morning (Sept. 5) at 4:15 a.m. "She is celebrating," Mark wrote on a Facebook page in her honor, "and I am thankful for God allowing me to have the privilege of being her husband while she was here on this Earth. Family was present, and when Hannah was ready to go, she left quickly." Hannah, 32, was a patient care technician in DeKalb County. She and Mark lived in Decatur. She contracted a bacterial infection the last weekend of June which resulted in blood poisoning. Around a hundred guests paid their respects at a funeral Sunday to remember those who died in last week's spa shooting in Norcross. The funeral for Tae Yol Kim, Kum Suk Kim and Jeong Soo Paek, three of the five people who died in Tuesday's murder-suicide, was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Lee's Funeral Home in Decatur. The funeral for the other two victims, Kum Hi Song and Byong Ok Kang, took place Saturday at the same location. Police say Paek fatally shot his two sisters and their husbands the evening of Feb. 21 at Su Jung Health Sauna in Norcross, then shot himself, according to police reports. Herman Cain, the Atlanta-based Republican who ended his presidential bid in December, will appear with Newt Gingrich at Gingrich's campaign appearance Saturday (Feb. 18) in Suwanee.
