Volunteer Workday Scheduled Saturday, Aug. 17, to Finish Painting Parsons Alley

Duluth Matters volunteers asked to gather starting at 8 a.m.

Duluth Councilman Billy Jones has scheduled another workday this Saturday, Aug. 17, for Duluth Matters volunteers to put the finishing touches on Parsons Alley.

The city’s Public Works Department is spray painting the walls along the alley that connects West Lawrenceville Street and a parking lot on Abbotts Bridge Road and runs behind several downtown Main Street shops. Volunteers are needed to do touch up painting starting at 8 a.m., Jones said.

During earlier workdays in May and July, volunteers painted some of the buildings along the alley and installed and filled planters with plants.

The city hired a contractor to pave the alley, which has been completed.

The alley is being improved for the convenience of citizens, shoppers and visitors to the upcoming Duluth Fall Festival.

Duluth Matters was founded by Jones to do improvement projects in the city. Previous projects have included making minor repairs and painting the basement at Red Clay, cleaning up the former Cash & Sons site, and laying sod on a vacant piece of property on Main Street next to the Duluth Town Green.

Anyone who wants to volunteer may sign up by emailing Jones at bjones@duluthga.net.
