TQB Order of the Arrow Selling Barbeque Saturday

Proceeds from barbeque cook out and sale benefit children's cancer research

Hungry for barbeque? How about some Brunswick stew? Boys Scouts in the Tella Qualla Boundary Chapter of the Order of the Arrow will be selling bags of barbeque and quarts of Brunswick stew Saturday, March 5, in Duluth. Barbeque sale proceeds benefit children’s cancer research.

The Tella Qualla Boundary Chapter has members from Duluth, Suwanee, Norcross, Berkeley Lake, and Lawrenceville. The Order of the Arrow was originally set up as a Brotherhood of Honor Campers in 1915, but is now known as the National Honor Society of Scouting, according to Phil Holt, TQB Chapter advisor. Members are elected by their peers and accept an obligation of cheerful service to others, he said.

This year is the fourth annual TQB Barbeque sale. The first year the $700 in profits from the barbeque cook out and sale was donated to breast cancer research because one of the Scout’s moms had beaten the disease, Holt said. “In subsequent years the boys asked that the profits be donated to cancer research for children. To date we have been able to present this excellent cause several thousand dollars as the event as grown,” he said.

Barbeque can be paid for when picked up. Cash or checks made out to Venture Crew 9236 will be accepted. Orders of $100 or more can be delivered.

“After nearly 50 years of Order of the Arrow membership, I am still impressed and deeply moved by the phenomenal qualities of honor, leadership, dedication and citizenship displayed by the young men in our order,” Holt said. “They are without doubt the finest examples of youth to be found anywhere, and I consider it an absolute honor to be associated with them.”
