Parc Purlers Knit Hats, Blankets for Preemies

Parc Duluth knitting club donates items to keep high-risk preemies warm to Newborns in Need.

The Parc Purlers had knitted sweaters, scarves and hats for family and friends, and then they decided they wanted to give back to the community. So, the ladies in the Duluth Parc knitting club contacted Newborns in Need and offered to knit baby blankets and hats for high-risk premature babies in more than 17 neo-natal hospitals throughout the Atlanta area.

On Thursday (May 19) the club presented Sugar Hill Newborns in Need Chapter President Marlene Baker with over 40 hats and blankets. “We never expected all of this,” said Baker. “This is wonderful.” The club celebrated the donation with a baby shower-themed party complete with a pink and blue cake.

The Parc Purlers started with resident Margaret Gaskins, who shared her knitting talent with other residents. It wasn’t long before the group grew to over 11 women who meet once a week to knit. “I never realized this project would grow the way it has,” said Gaskins.
