Although it started raining during the Duluth Matters workday Saturday (Aug. 17), volunteers continued to work. The workday was called by Duluth Councilman Billy Jones to do touch up painting on Parsons Alley. The city's Public Works Department has been spray painting walls of the buildings lining the alley, which connects West Lawrenceville Street and a parking lot on Abbotts Bridge Road. Volunteers moved under the roof overhang at the former Duluth Art Gallery/Boiler Room building and painted the front of it. Sprucing up Parsons Alley is one of several improvement projects undertaken by Duluth Matters, which was founded by Councilman Jones. The alley has been leveled and paved to provide a convenient walkway for citizens, shoppers and Duluth Fall Festival visitors. It will also serve as a community gathering place.
