Duluth Matters Honored for Alley Revitalization

Duluth Matters took part in Gwinnett County's Great American Cleanup, and received the Beautify Your Space award.

Results from Gwinnett County's "Great American Cleanup" are in, and several organizations are being recognized for making an especially big impact.

One of those is located in Duluth: Duluth Matters. It is the 2013 winner of the Beautify Your Space award.

About 50 volunteers helped beautify an alley in downtown Duluth in the historic district.Β 

Volunteers spruced up an alley in downtown Duluth by clearingΒ  trash, resurfacing the walkway, and repainting walls.

"Their efforts revitalized a strolling space that the entire community can now enjoy," said Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful officials said in a press release.

Along with several other groups, Duluth Matters took part in a special challenge, in which volunteers designed their projects in order to make a big impact in the community.

Each challenge winner was awarded a $500 cash prize.

Duluth Matters founder Councilman Billy Jones has scheduled another workday on the alley Saturday, July 13, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Volunteers will continue painting the alley, weather permitting, and install flowerboxes.
