I attended the special called City Council meeting on Friday where the City Manager was dismissed. As I have witnessed repeatedly in my five years of attending city council meetings, and this one was no different, it appeared a decision had already been reached. When the mayor asked if the council had any comments they all shook their heads and said no. A vote was then taken and a unanimous decision was reached to terminate the City Manager.
I can understand the need to keep certain information confidential but what I have concerns with is the lack of any informative comments from our leadership. There were no reassuring comments about the state of the city, nothing was said as to who would be assuming, on an interim basis, the City Manager duties or anything about the timeline to advertise and select a new City Manager. This would be the minimum information we as citizens should have received.
A lack of official information leaves all of us subjected to the damaging effects of rumors and conjecture. As your representative I will improve communications between your elected officials and you.
