Duluth Staycation: Summer Fun In and Out of the Sun

Duluth Staycation 2012 activities for children and time out for mom on Fridays in June and July start June 1 in downtown Duluth.

Looking for things to do to keep children entertained and give moms a break this summer? Check out the Duluth Staycation itinerary that Historic Downtown Duluth merchants have planned for a vacation at home!

The Fun Friday activities kick-off this Friday, June 1. The standing activities each week include 9-10 a.m. flash mob dance practice on the led by Miss Cindy's Dance Studio, storytime from 10-11 a.m. at one of the downtown shops and tutoring by Joyce Knutson at The Work Spot. (A flash mob dance performance is planned in July.)

MOMS @ 3 (Mothers on Main Street) at 3 p.m. provides mothers an opportunity to take a break for an hour to shop or just relax. Moms can enroll the kids in an art class at Luv for Art, Chess Club at Steverino's hosted by Chess Atlanta, or an activity at Tie Dye 4 Parties. Hurry to register, space is limited.

Macaroni Kid Duluth is hosting a special event each Friday. The first Fun Friday will be a Summer Camp Fair to showcase camps in the area. Other activities include a Sleeping Beauty Princess Party, a day performance of "The Garden of IZ" at New Dawn Theater, pick-up games on the Town Green, Pro Sports Day with players, cheerleaders, and mascots along with a sports card trading event, a "Duluthstock" kids music concert, a petting zoo and more.

But that isn't all. There are staycation activities for adults, too, including wine tastings on Wednesdays at Park Cafe, "Eddie Owen Presents" live music at the Red Clay Theatre, and performances at New Dawn Theater. Luv for Art, Steverino's and Chocolate Perks have activities planned also.
