2013 Summer Solstice Takes Stage

It's been a long time coming, but summer is finally here.

According to the Farmer's Almanac, summer began here in Georgia at 1:04 a.m. on June 21. (It actually started on the west coast last night.)

The timing of the summer solstice depends on when the sun reaches its farthest point north of the equator, the almanac states.

On this day, there are more daylight hours than at any other time in the year. And, it also tends to be warmer here in the Northern Hemisphere.

We've been having some wacky weather here at home, so let's all cross our fingers for a good, warm summer -- not too hot, not too muggy, too many smog alerts.

Is that too much to ask?
