Mill Creek Wins Boys State Track & Field Championship

Led by individual wins by Tyler Woodrome and Michael Cheeks, Mill Creek won the Class AAAAAA boys track and field championship May 2-4 in Jefferson, GA.

Mill Creek finished with 59 points to beat second-place Hillgrove, which had 43. Brookwood (35 points) was third, Shiloh (30) fifth and North Gwinnett (27.5) sixth.

Woodrome won the 1,600 meters in a time of 4 minutes, 15.85 seconds and Cheeks won the 200 in a time of 22.01 seconds.

The Mill Creek 4x400 relay team, which included Woodrome and Cheeks, also won first place in a time of 3:24.22. Braden Canamare and Allen Eckles were also on that relay team.

In Class AA, Darius Slayton won the 100 and 200 meters as Greater Atlanta Christian finished second in the team standings. Westminster won with 72 points; GAC had 62 points.
